Dealer wants $18,995 for '83 RX-7 - misprint or crazy?
I was looking at RX-7 values to determine if I should get an appraisal and I came across an '83 RX-7 at a local dealer that seems to be priced at least $10k over what it should be. Thoughts?
Check out this 1983 Mazda RX-7 on AutoTrader.com Cars for Sale: 1983 Mazda RX-7 in Hickory, NC 28602: Hatchback Details - 356908675 - AutoTrader.com
Granted it is very low miles at 31k, but it is an automatic and it is not in perfect condition, very good condition but not perfect. Actually I would be concerned about all the seals unless it was in Leno's garage all this time.

Yeah, totally overpriced. I wonder if this is one that they dont want to sell so that an employee can buy it? I should print it just incase I need something to show my insurance company.
I suppose that if we all stuck together and only sold our cars for top dollar that would drive up the collectible cost but I can't imagine any car from the '80s (except maybe a mint Delorian) being worth 57% more than the original MSRP.
I am assuming it is an GS model even though the ad mentions features of a GSL (historical copy?). While it has the premium radio, I don't see GSL pillar emblems, power windows, leather seats, and the rears don't look like disc brakes. I do see rust under the hood and missing radio *****.

i didn't look at all the pics, but its got the wrong battery, the hood rod clip is broken (its a $2 part!), the air cleaner cover is on wrong, its missing the center caps for the wheels, spark plug wires are incorrect...
its an 83 GS AUTOMATIC. the interior/exterior look really good.
i say its worth more like $4k, it is a pretty nice car

These kind of crazy prices turn up pretty regularly, and they are always entertaining. I wonder if anybody ever actually pays close to this for an older RX-7.
Although this car looks pretty nice and appears rust free, it is far from perfect and features less than desirable equipment, especially the automatic.
Maybe in another 20 years a clean FB will be worth this kind of money, but not now.
