If they have a decent reflector then it is a great idea
the turn signals seem quite pointless on a pop up headlight car. The only time you will really have the lights up they will be on, and there is no way anyone is seeing that little turn with the headlight lit.

The MK1 Golf guys have all kinds of cool super high quality H4 conversion lenses. I've always wanted to try some but they're expensive and come with all kinds of VW specific bracketry that I'm not sure will come off without destroying the light.

eh, non OEM headlights are typically illegal, and most aftermarket stuff is crap that blinds you and other drivers on the road. Also, I imagine they would involve a lot of tricky wiring changes.
