Question Considering this particular 1st gen...

Hey all,

I've been away from the rotorhead community for awhile now, but after selling some things (namely my old miata) and paying off some bills, I've got a little extra cash on hand to buy an Rx-7 again... woohoo!

Anyways, I stumbled on this add in a semi-local Craigslist, and wanted to see if anyone had any opinions... I'm still awaiting more pics, as the one listed is the only one I have so far. Can anyone think of anything in particular I need to ask about? When I owned an Rx before and it was a nice FC, but i've decided to go the 1st gen route this time... the design and overall sexiness of 1st gens is timeless to me, as I'm sure it is with most people here

http://dallas.craigslist.org/car/474654861.html

I've talked to the owner a bit, and he says the interior is nice, besides the dashboard, which is cracked pretty bad. The A/C is disabled by a removed belt, but putting the belt back on will fix it. Also, the seats are supposed to have the color faded. Other than that - I'm waiting for pics to ask about anything else - and I was doing about 3 other things at work when I talked to him...
Thanks for the help!

PS: If anyone knows of a better deal, please inform me! I need to get something thats running, but I don't mind fixing minor details.

Those seats are pretty slick man. Your interior is very nice, indeed.

Definitely pick it up. For a grand, I would. Just make sure you check the usual places for rust.

That's what i was thinking... Only thing is that it's located almost 5 hours north of me... Shooting up there just to look at it isn't really an option. If I go to look, I'm not going to come back another day to buy. It's all going to have to go down on the same trip.

I really need a car to putt around town in, and drive when the wife is using her car. We normally ride together to work, but this next college semester we'll be taking separate cars due to scheduling conflicts, so I'll need the car to be able to do 80 mile round trips every few days. I figured an Rx-7 would be my best bet! Thanks for the input.

For 1,000 bucks? That's a steal, or would be around here at least. Get it.

Found another one...

Grr... Still awaiting pics from the '79....

In the meantime, I found this one:

http://austin.craigslist.org/car/457228098.html

Nothing wrong with it at all, other than miles. It's real clean GS model...What do you all think?

Thanks again for all the input!

haha yeah i went out and checked it out, he doesnt have the title in his name and they recently changed some laws in texas so you cant sell a car to someone if the car isnt legally in your name. thats the problem.

its been hit some place, you can see where its painted over bondo, the speedo cable has been ripped out who knows when, but the seats are nice, brakes are just squishy
and there is no power in the engine. clutch is weak, probably needs new shocks and springs all around.

its too much work for me probably but if you wanna tackle it go for it.

im still thinking about picking it up though...rationalizing is a bitch

oh and it idles REAL rough

These could all be simple things i dont know ive never owned a rotary
