Clutch slave cylinder failure fix?
My clutch slave cylinders only seem too last about 2 months before they start to leak. Ive always gotten the good brand name ones raybestos, beck arnley from rockauto ( bought a whole **** load of them for $3 on closeout). Ive had alot of rx7 over the years all of them have had this problem. But had less problems with a 82 i had than with all the other 84-85. I think theres a difference between the 82 vs the 84-85 dont remember what. But has anyone come up with a modification or replacement fix for this problem? Ive tried a few things with no luck. McLeod clutches sell a slave thats similar probably made from better rubber and what not. But its $150 which is a bit much. Maybe when i run out of $3 slaves cly. Ill try it. Down to the last few now. But theres got to be a trick. I always used to use castrol gtx brake fluid back in the day. Now i cant find it and all they have is crap brands at the stores around me. I think thats part of my problem.

Back in the 80's, someone told me to always replace the master cylinder at the same time as the slave cylinder. Maybe it's overkill, maybe not given your experience. You're probably already flushing the system thoroughly? I use DOT4 fluid.

What's causing the leaks? Not likely even cheapest slave cyl.fails in 2 months repetitively. Something exterior to slave cyl. has to be contaminating it. What's the color of the fluid in clutch master? Should be clear,if dark or sediment and/or particles in reservoir,it's indicative of seal degradation. What color is fluid coming from slave cyl.? Is the metal section of line rusty,is flex hose original,is clutch master original? Suggest you start fresh, new clutch master, hard and flex line and new slave. Prestone synthetic fluid is cost effective, available everywhere. I use this in DOT4 in my brakes and clutch hydraulics and flush it every 2 years. No need for anything more exotic/expensive.

I would replace the slave cylinder, master cylinder, clutch hose, and clean out the hard line or replace it with a new one from Mazda. Once everything in the system is new you should not have to worry about fluid contamination or putting stress on a worn part by installing a new part.

I replaced everything at once about a year ago. . Slave, master, ss hose. Sense then ive gone though 2 slaves. When pedal gets weak. i pull back the rubber boot on the slave see if theres any fluid. Always is. The last time it happened i just put a small oring behind the cup. Works pretty good and its been in there going on 2months. Fluid is clean.

same thing i installed. BeckArnley. They were whole sale close out from rockauto looked like they were sitting on a shelf for years but still sealed in plastic. I bought 3 or 4 for $3 each. I believe my problem is from the generic brake fluid from orilleys. Its got to be. My reservoir is black now probably from the cups in the master. I believe its a exedy brand master from rockauto. Not that old. I have some old super blue brake fluid that i wouldnt use for my brakes but for the clutch i dont see why not. Im going to try or just order some castrol gtx brake fluid from Amazon because summit wont ship oil or any kind of "hazardous " materials anymore to my area for some reason. California politicians great ideas.
