i wouldnt do it. i always said, if i ever bought a car with a carbon fiber hood, id paint it to match. not my thing. but (i cant look at the link) if thats just a decal type thing, that would make it even worse concidering it has no function either. thats just my opinion.

Yeah, it's a vinyl decal but very high quality.

"This unique product is made of UV resistant vinyl that features a carbon textured finish. Unlike those cheap carbon pattern printed, there are true 3D texture resembles the genuine look of dry carbon fiber, the weave reflects light the same way as the actual carbon fiber would."

I definitely would like the real thing for my hood..but haven't been able to find a legitimately good one. not to mention being able to find original mirrors or moon roofs made out of real carbon fiber. About the two tone..I like the look.

I've seen a couple high end exotics wrapped in the 3M Dinoc stuff, they looked INCREDIBLE. I don't know if I'd use it for accents like that, but a full wrap looks killer. Be careful with the cheap Ebay stuff, usually they use a pic of Dinoc in the listing but when you get it it looks nothing like Dinoc. Plus Dinoc has pores in it to help it shape and conform to compound curves.

That stuff is good when used sparingly to wrap small pieces. IMO it looks nothing like real carbon so it looks like you have a big sheet of fake vinyl carbon on your hood.

I see this stuff on the BMW and Lexus forums I'm on and it doesn't look good on those cars and won't look right on the RX7 either.

My 2 cents.

Maybe then for the windshield surround pieces like the outside pillars that are always getting chipped and lose their black color. I recently had them painted semi gloss black and they looked great in the beginning but 5 months later they chipping again...

Carbon fiber look is too modern for a 1st gen, IMO. If it 's a look you like, make yourself happy, but to me it is too 21st-century to look right on a car of this vintage.

& I think doing any kind of wrap on our side mirrors is not going to be easy at all; very complex shape, with 3d tight curves and sharp edges.

I agree with DivinDriver on the mirrors. What about getting a carbon fiber mirror that looks similar to the stock rx-y mirror? I don't know if they exist though.

I ordered some vinyl carbon, not the Di-Noc, it was M500. Actually looked better then Di-Noc, little more glossy and it was rated for exterior which Di-Noc is not. Wrapped some interior pieces, was thinking of doing side mirrors, did spare gauge surround I have... To be honest, after awhile I hated it. Took it all off and just painted interior pieces flat black. Loosk much better.

If you're going to do exterior pieces, don't use Di-Noc, check out m500, you may like it better.

Nice..thanks for this info. I didn't know about the M500 and I had ordered 4 samples of the DI-NOC. I just ordered a sample of the M500 to compare. The thing is the M500 doesn't come in all the colors DI-NOC does..so we'll see. My car is silver so I was thinking the DI-NOC silver or pewter was gonna be my best bet..

You'd have to change a few other things to match it IMO. Flares, wheels, wing, mirrors etc. All in a modern/retro fusion to pull it off....

that is the definition of rice. quite literally. Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements. no function what so ever. plus i agree with everyone else its out of place on this car.

IMO for carbon fiber to look good the car needs to be somewhat curvy. so even tho it looks out of place it still flows. our hoods are practically square. it will look like it was just slapped into the middle of the front of the car

Bare carbon fiber just looks unfinished to me. Don't like it, except maybe as an interior accent.

Fake carbon fiber, though... just no. It's the riciest, tackiest thing in the world.

^ stumbled on this thread...
One of the FD Guys used it on some panels of his car... I though it was a nice touch

It kinda servers the purpose of a "textured clear Bra". I've seen it in person and in some cases it looks better than actual carbon panels.

^ That works. But I'm not 100% convinced it could be pulled off well on an FB... If you can do it and it works, then well done! Lets see it happen

I'm waiting for the sample pieces to come in and have a final verdict. I'm hoping the Silver or pewter DI-Noc will look good with my silver paint. The stereo surround and the faded plastic speaker covers in the back will get some too if it looks right, but those will probably be the M500 or the Graphite DI-Noc..

Anybody who'd use a dry paper towel on a painted car finish should be barred from the industry...

Not in mine yet, but my doors will be looking like this when I'm done. Cf panel, with brown leather strap Porsche style.

the CF look isn't any different than a pep boys stick on hood scoop, if it' doesn't serve it's real purpose then it's just rice IMO
