A Big Thank You

I just wanted to give a public Thank You to Kentetsu and ManInBlack.

The story: I was on my way to Winnipeg Manitoba and was cutting through the US. About halfway through Michigan my front wheels bearings on both sides let go. I called Kentetsu looking for help who then called ManInBlack who had a parts car with useable struts on it. They pulled them off and Kentetsu drove from Holland Mi to Battle Creek. The plan was to swap the entire strut assembly in but with my R&P kit that wasn't possible. So I with great hospitality from Kentetsu and his family I spent the next 3 nights on his couch. On Sunday he dropped me off at ManInBlacks shop where we (he) spent some time pulling/torching/drilling everything that wasn't strut off the assemblies. Kentetsu then drove my *** back to Battle Creek where I had the Mazda/Ford dealership install them. Without the help of these two guys, I'd probably have spent twice as much money, been ten times more frustrated and angry as well as I'd probably still be in Battle Creek trying to sort out how I was going to get back home. Kentetsu's hospitality made this nightmare somewhat bearable. I now know first hand why the 1st gen community is so great.

Thank You Kentetsu and ManInBlack.

Good to hear those guys got you running again. You could have given me a buzz and I would have helped you out too. I'm only 75 minutes from BC. Good to hear those guys got you up and running again.

What if we had a section called SOS (Save Our Sevens)? If someone is in need of help, such as what you experienced, they could post and people in that area could respond. I know everyone is not going to have internet access in all places but it might help someone in a jam.

+1!

That is what I love about this forum/group/car owners. I have had quite a few cars
and been part of many a forum, but this group is genuinely unique! Love to help and
love to be helped!

Kentetsu and ManInBlack Big thanks for getting another one back on the road

All you have to do is read this forum for a short time.....it's easy to see which are the "quality" people.
It doesn't surprise me at all that these guys went out of their way to help another member.....just read their posts!

Thanks for the kind words Chris (and everyone else) but it was no big deal. It was a pleasure to have your company for the weekend. Besides, you did help me pull that damned tranny Saturday night.

Glad you made it home alright...

Consider that useless piece of crap a gift. I think I'd need a fully charged full size tank of oxygen to get any use out of it.

Amusing story I'll add to the tale.

After busting a few bolt heads off the struts we figured we should try a different approach, so Kentetsu carted my *** off to Home Depot in search of ANYTHING that might make the ordeal go a little more smoothly. After searching for a carbide grinding bit at a half dozen places I decided to try one of the small oxy-acetylene torch kits. We get back to Kentetsu's place, I put the thing together and fire it up, only to discover the oxygen tank was completely empty. Off we go back to Home Depot, and I exchange it for another, the last one they had on the shelf. Tried it in the parking lot and same deal, not a molecule of oxygen in the thing. We go back in and one of the guys grabs two smaller oxygen tanks and trades me. They feel like they've got something in them, so back to the house we go. About 4 minutes into torching and just after I start to see some progress the first tank goes empty. Luckily by that time ManInBlack had shown up, laughed at my sorry excuse for a torch and offered the use of the equipment in his shop. I put the sucker down, and proceeded to drink beer and eat yummy bbq hotdogs prepared by Kentetsu. They certainly hit the spot.

Sounds like one of those days where everything you look at or touch breaks. We've all been there. Good thing you had a couple of knuckleheads to share the suffering with. Way to take care of our own guys! If anyone is ever Indy and needs some help let me know!

Yeah, that trip was doomed from the moment I woke up. I had McDonald's for breakfast. I NEVER eat McDonald's. Anything other than a McMuffin makes my stomach angry.
