Have a hard time reading the dip stick or am I just going blind?

You need glasses. Or turn it around to read it from the other side. The crosshatch just gets in the way.

I've seen a couple of non crosshatched dipsticks in rotaries. They are rare.

I press mine against the paper towel, then roll it one-half rotation, and read the oil stain against the hash marks instead. Easier, more accurate, and it's also easier to see the oil's condition on the white paper.

Yeah. I do need glasses but ur right. That damn design on the top makes it hard to read. Since my oil looks damn near see through. Good idea bout that paper towel trick. Thank u sir

Ha!!! Well here's another one for ya then. Anyone ever have a prob getting the damn thing back in there? Lol. Sometimes it just doesn't want to go back in there. I have to fiddle with it for a min.

Lol normally I don't say stuff like that cause some people might take it the wrong way, but I just couldn't pass that up.
But to the paint I would just lightly mist some white spray paint on the tip, just enough to cover it. Use engine paint and you won't have a problem. I'm not sure it they have white engine paint or not but I know they have silver which would work the same.
