Any Aftermarket Universal Power Windows Installations ?

Been a really long time since I have posted here, but freshening up my '81 a bit. I'm wanting power windows and door locks, but would love to hear if anybody has successfully used the universal power window type that turns the cranks (instead of stock up/down). Also door locks.

I am about to paint again and really want the key locks for the doors, hatch and gas filler to disappear. I'm okay with the handles, so they will remain.

Anybody using these ? Thanks in advance.

Glad to see you're back in the game. I don't know about universal power windows, but here's a How to on the universal door locks:

It's another thing on my list of things to do, eventually. Hope it helps.

ive seen the universals, but they kind of stink. better way is to just use the factory power window regulators, its a bolt in.

Sounds like you have your sense of sight and smell crossed. Did you mean to say that you have smelled them and they stank ? j/k

On a funk scale of 1 to 10... one being cabbage and ten being the flatulence that that same cabbage produces along with pickled eggs and PBR... how bad did they stink ? Will you elaborate exactly what made them "kind of stink"?

Thank you so much for the advice to use factory regulators, but since I have never had power windows (regulators, motors, wiring, switches, etc.) I bet the cost of all that factory stuff would screw me to tears. The availability of and condition of salvage materials almost always will not meet my standards of usable parts.

So with that said (and I'm certain it's true), has anybody USED the universal type ?

Thanks.

the aftermarket ones when ON TOP of the spot where the handle would go, AND they wore the regulators out WORSE than normal. manual windows would have been better.

the factory stuff is pretty cheap, except for the window motors themselves, but those are actually the durable part.
