All four wheels on the ground!!!

Finally got my seven off of jackstands. It started as a "fix my leaky gas tank" project.

Well step one was the tank. Then step two was to fix the sending unit. Then the straps were corroded and rusty. Then the rust that needed attention that couldn't be reached with the gas tank back in it. Then, hey better change the differential fluid while I'm back here. Then the fuel filter. Then make a new exhaust heat shield so my newly refurbished gas tank doesn't melt. Then put it all back together.

I was up until 3:00 AM Friday night. Then I was up until 2:00 AM last night. As I was cleaning up I thought to myself, well at least I'm finished an hour earlier then last night. "Wait, daylight savings time!!" "IT IS 3:00!!!!!".

Well that segment of my project is done. She's lowered back down. All four are on the floor. Now I can shift my attention to the front of this car where the fun stuff is.

What a pain to buy a cool car with a unique engine. And then the spend the first three months of working on the *** end of it. But that's the way it goes with a 24year old car. It actually looks strange to see it back on the ground. I kept going back to look at in the garage at like 3:00 AM just because it felt so cool to see it done.

Today I'll put some gas in her, charge the battery and give her a start. But first I thought I'd vent a little here and give a cyber sigh of relief.

p.s. I took a lot of pictures so I'll document the project soon. Would've been alot tougher without all the info on these boards. Thanks to all that make this site possible. This is a great site.

Congrats!
enjoy the fact you can actually do "back-yard" mechanic work on your car
The next gen of drivers will never be able to touch their "24yr old" early 21st century cars with all the electronic doodads! End of an era - enjoy the hands-on pleasure of building it and making it your own.

QFT... My '03 Z is almost impossible for a shadetree mechanic to even jack and support safely, much less hack away at. Only safe lift point under the front is designed to take a special 3" diameter pin-centric jack nose that isn't sold anywhere I can find... and has to fit on a jack that is less than 4" high and can reach 3 + feet under the car.

The "special tools" list for the car seems longer than the entire first-gen factory manual!

Comet, I feel it... I started off to do a quick carb rebuild. 6 months later, was road and smog ready. Still tinkering with details.
