How's it going everyone? Wanted to let everyone in on the progress I've been making with my project car. I've been documenting the progress on my thread here, but it's been a year or two since I've posted anything. Bought a house, got married - That kind of stuff.
Long story short: I decided to finally unearth the RX7 again for a local show and shine car show. It gave me motivation to finally get around to tracking down my poor idle, TPS issues and get the car shining. Spent 6 hours with an orbital polisher, doing a 3 piece cut and polish. What's left of the paint came right back to life brilliantly. Needs new paint soon however, as the clear is beginning to wear off.
There was a mobile Dyno at the car show this year, and I decided to hop on. Quick background:
Engine rebuilt 4 years ago, by RPM Motorsports in Ontario (You guys rocked
)
New Housings
Used Irons
13B S5 High Compression Rotors machined for 3mm apex seals
T2 Oil Pump, new
S5 Front Counterweight Used
Rx8 E-Shaft New
Rx8 Stationary Gears New
Exhaust - Stock header, Straight piped, No cat. (Racing Beat for next year, for sure)
Anyway: The goods
Second Pull:
End Result: 124 Horse Power, 121 Ft/lb torque.

I'm very pleased with these numbers. It's just off what a 'Stock' GSL SE should make, according to the 'Window Sticker' . That's taking into account those numbers are often inflated, and at the engine. Over all - Very impressed. If the humidty was lower, and the temperature a bit colder - I'd say 130 isn't out of the question. Was very pleased with my air and fuel mixtures being near spot on.
With the hacked exhaust, not sure if my 5th and 6th ports are working correctly. I've got them hooked up via a port I welded into the exhaust, but.. with a proper exhaust system, I'm hoping for mid 130's stock
Thanks guys! Hope you enjoyed.

looks nice! id say they work fine, ive got my 6 ports working of the same deal you got( 3/8 fuel line welded into exhaust) without that you would definately not get that smooth of a run up to 6.5k. SE's rule! and not bad for 93 degree weather!
Nice, i've got a stock gsl-se too, except it has a racing beat road-race 'streetport long primary' system, and 205,000 miles on an engine that has never been rebuilt.
I need to go over the 5/6 ports, too. hopefully i can get mine on a dyno once the problems are addressed and we can compare results.
Cheers for the video!

Thanks guys
. I was thinking the same thing about the ports - I'm surprised my hack job weld is actually working :P . It was such a smooth pull all the way to 6.5k, it's so linear. I think thats why I really love these cars. The more you give them, the just keep climbing, and climbing.
The 93 is in the shade too. Step out of the shade, and it was nearly 100. We were all *Dying* at the car show. Many beers where devoured, along with taco in a bag, etc :P . The Dyno was one of the biggest draws for the show. It was really encouraging to have a group of people watching too. I sat between a group of 4 old guys, who sat there all day, taking guesses at horse power. Most of the time, they had the muscle cars down to within 10 hp, regardless of modification. Real gear heads. When I got up to move the RX7 onto the dyno and came back to sit and watch them run the dyno, the old guys looked at me and starting probing questions. "That's one of dem rotaries, aint it? Is it stock? Rev limiter? I remember those cars, they don't make them anymore. that's a very nice car. Is it turbo'd? So, it has no pistons, right?"
I have a rotor in the back hatch I use for display, and I brought it out to show them. Everyone that saw it was fascinated. It's so fun explaining these cars to people

That's a great idea. I just pulled apart an old 12a, they are so simple and it's so easy to explain to people how they work.
I might just have to build my own portable dyno one day and rent it out to people.
I hired a welder from lowes when i welded my back pressure tube on, the wire feed on their crappy welder kept sticking so i am ashamed of the weld i ended up with. lucky no one will see it under the car, hopefully.
