Exclamation 83 Rx7 Rear brakes.

Hello, I have an 83 rx7 that has been sitting for a few years, have been rebuilding it but i have frozen rear brakes. they are not stock the previous owner had put them on, but now they are completely out of stock. does anyone know of good rear brakes that would work? or a whole new rear conversion kit? Thanks

Can you post some pics of what you have? Are they drum or disc?

It could be the the previous owner had installed a disc brake rear end from a GSL model or like yo say, could be custom brackets and calipers from a different car/chassis.

Step one would be to identify the calipers, see if they are rebuildable, then go from there.

welcome to the board.

for the sake of clarity, are we talking about drums or discs?

can you post a photo of what you have?

Those are Rx7 calipers. I presume GSL.

What about them means you can't rebuild them? If you search the forums there are threads that detail the steps to rebuild them. Are the pistons pitted at all?
Rebuild kit is available from any Mazda dealership. The ebrake mechanism and spring washers are a pain to put back together!

The rebuild kit for the rears can also be found on Rock Auto .com I have had good success with the caliper rebuilds from there.

The piston itself can be pitted/rusty as long as the seal groove and bore are good. The only part that touches the bore is the seal.

rockauto....45$ each fully rebuilt.

easier than rebuilding...and a heck of a lot quicker. I did my front calipers, and depending on rust/condition they can be a real PITA

edit: confirm those are the exact ones, as they have a couple choices on the main menu from other suppliers.
