‘82 mazda rx7 won’t idle?

My ‘82 mazda rx7 won’t idle, it starts but will
die quickly if left to idle, it will however stay on
if the throttle is being pressed. I’ve tried
replacing the fuel filter and fuel pump as well
as quite a bit of the tubing around those parts.
However I noticed there seems to be
something either reducing or blocking the fuel
flow to the filter and pump so I was wondering
if anyone would have an idea of what’s going
wrong there or if there could be any other
problem causing this.

Is this after the choke releases after it's been pulled out to start the car?

At first it would stay on as long as I was pulling the choke. But after replacing the fuel pump it dies even when pulling the choke. The filter doesn’t seem to be filling up and the fuel pump definitely isn’t pumping any gas because the tube it pumps to stays dry. It also only starts when having sprayed carb cleaner into the carburetor.

Could be debris inside the tank. After starting, they are drawn around the pickup screen and it cuts off the flow of fuel to the pump. After shutting off, they disperse until drawn back again by the pump's suction.

...which may mean dropping the tank and getting it professionally cleaned. Rad shops will usually do this. Your RX has a drain plug to dump gas first. This can show up particularly if the car has been stored for long periods, esp with gas left in the tank.
Once cleaned, recommend you re-coat the inside of the tank with a product like POR15's Gas Tank Sealer kit. You can do this yourself.
