Start with the FAQs at the beginning of the forum. Do lots of reading, go through the archives for how tos and the FSM link in my sig line.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Trochoid for finding this. I'm so sick of reading these new threads that all say the same thing, "How can I get more power out of my rx7. I'm a newbie!"

Throttle body mod.

[QUOTE=JIMMY54]Throttle body mod. (fuel injected cars)

Lowers air intake tempuratures DRASTICALLY (coolant line is removed of intake and re-routed back into block, and improves throttle response, and will maintain a perfect set idle. also a pair of butterflies are removed, more air flow.

Draw back is you lose your mechaincal choke so car will run a tiny but rough in cold weather till car reaches operating tempurature.

Under 10 bucks to do, or possibly free if you have basic things needed for this 1-2 hour job.

Pro will take about 45 minutes to complete and restart the car.

Can you give me any details on how to do this? I am a little confused, because you say that this is for FI models, but then you talk about losing the mechanical choke.

trochoid 10-01-06 06:28 PM

There are a couple of ways to do it, one keeps the warm up cycle. I did it on my 2nd gen and hated sitting on my ass until the engine warmed up enough to drive off. I eventually went back to stock.

The tb mod is of most benefit for the TIIs, for the NAs there is little gain and for me, keeping the warmup cycle is worth more than a couple of hp. You will find more info on it in the 2nd gen section.

But why? We all know ten second Jetta's are abundant. :P

If you want even more torque, add a LSD. This will seriously help with getting off the line as well as getting sideways for all you drift fans out there. I personally recommend a 1.5 way.

i don't know if anyone mentioned a mazdaspeed short shifter, i have one and it doesn't help it go faster but helps with the lags in between shifts to keep going faster. Also can anyone give me CP racing's website?

redfb 06-24-07 08:52 AM

oh and bonez stage 1 brake upgrade help you stop faster...at least they did for mine but i think they weren't installed correctly so i am investigating into that one

GTX79 07-09-07 08:11 AM

Okay, I looked everywhere I could, but didn't find what I was looking for, so I was wondering: Is it possible to turbocharge an N/A 12a with a nikki carb and just run it at about 5psi of boost? I was told that it was possible with just a bolt-on setup using a KKK K03 turbo, some oil and coolant lines, and the proper intake/exhaust piping. don't feel like going through all the trouble of a full engine swap. Any suggestions? I hope I'm asking the right folks about this stuff...

orion84gsl 07-09-07 03:30 PM

CP Racing's website is no longer available. In fact they are no longer available, from what I've heard.

GTX79, search for blowthru turbo setups. You should find the info you need

rydestandard666 12-13-07 12:11 PM

Drop a v8 in there ;)

Ok maybe that wouldn't apply to upgrading a stock rx7

I have been told by rx3 drag racers that the stock 12a can handle a 150-200 shot.

A 50-75 shot might be a little more reasonable for something you need to rely on and I can't think of anything else this cheap that will give you this much more hp. Not to mention it's not hurting anything when your not using it.

KetteringRotorhead 12-15-07 08:29 PM

Make stock 7 faster, easy;
Pull out everything you don't absolutely need to go faster, turn faster, or stop faster.

Weight is the devil.

Lightening the car is fun, effective and free!

redbstd 12-15-07 09:06 PM

How much do our cars weigh gutted any way. 1900-2100ish im geussing?

Naegleria_Fowleri 12-15-07 09:09 PM

^Try 2,300 to 2,500, iirc. That is probably dry weight as well. Even if it was 1,900 lbs, it could always stand to go on a diet. Every car can. Especially when we're talking about the go-fast department.

I didn't see that you put down gutted weight. I am sure that simply depends on how much you gut.

redbstd 12-16-07 12:01 AM

i know the wieght of my SE iirc it was 2500ish i was talking completely gutted. someone around here has to have a gutted 7. if not ill do it to find out

TeamSMS 12-16-07 12:49 AM

Weight redux does help out a lot but once all the free weight redux is done...spend some money on even more!!! Id say gut it, lightweight seats, lightweight wheels, flywheel, lose the a/c, p/s, air pump (once cat is gone), lexan glass...anything else on weight redux guys?
