Thanks for all the interest guys!

I'm seeing what the best path moving forward is. Seems to be 15 people + / - right now interested, which is right on the cusp of Group Buy territory.

I got a set installed on my personal car and snapped some pics as I went along. Not yet a good "install guide" - but I can say install took about an hour up on a lift - while snapping pics. Nothing really to it, just loosening subframe bolts, slipping these in and tightening back up.

Thumbs up

Interested!

Matt, are those pics you posted of the amemiya ones you ordered or have you already had them replicated? You're right that they look very simple... half look like just turning, the other half turned and then some post-machining. I imagine the specific alloy these are made from might be important, though--were you able to get a good idea from the amemiya parts what they might be made from?

The pics I posted are the final product I had made here locally. The only difference between the two are finish (mine are more of a natural finish that's been media blasted, the RE-A ones are polished) the materials are identical. I will also say, finish will have absolutely zero effect on performance. Very simple product, very straight forward install.

Oh yeah!

I documented the install process (10+ pics per front / rear) and I also have the original instructions from RE-A. All very straight forward, only thing is getting the right style rigid collar in the right spot.

If anyone is interested PLEASE add your name to this list. We'll have some prototypes ready to roll and want to get some out in the world before we officially launch.

PM me or add your name to the list!

How much will the rigid collar cost? I believe the RE-A kit costs around 300 bucks.

The RE-A kit at current exchange rate is closer to $500 for a front/rear set.

These will be closer to half of that for a front/rear set.

Just checked RHDjapan and a front and rear set is $400 not including shipping. But regardless, if you are replicating them for half price I’m all in.

Matt
I just looked it up. They’re *on sale* for $217.78 per axle. That’s $435.56, plus another $36.95 for shipping, plus another $21.26 “payment charge” RHDJapan hits you with. So all in, that’s $493.77 landed IF you don’t get hit with and duty/tax from your shipper.

Not trying to split hairs... but I don’t want it to make it sound like I’m embellishing either.

You’re right.

I wasnt trying to be sarcastic or a a smartie. I’ve never ordered anything from RHDjapan so I didn’t know they had heavy shipping especially for something that seems so small.

Sorry if that came across wrong

As far as I know, Spoon manufacturers the Front/Rear set and RE-A sells them as a co-branded product.

RE-A then went and developed the "middle" set themselves. I honestly don't know where the middle set installs.

If there's demand, we can look into producing those as well.

In as a test dummy stage 1: Installation

Hi everyone. Matt Gold was kind enough to let me be a little test dummy on these before he opens up the gig for a real GB.

I began installing these these a few hours ago. Don’t judge how dirty the underside of my car is. I took the scenic route through the dirt at a track day a few months back and I don’t exactly want to scrub the underside of my car :P If you want pretty pictures, Matt Gold has better ones for install.

When end I first saw these I had my skepticism. Here are a few shots that exacerbate my skepticism.

If you look closely, you can see the collar in place but the shoulders of the collar don’t “fill in” in the subframe quite as much as I was anticipating. I feel like these collars have more of a “crush-lock” effect between the two structures. The collar that fits in the aft most bolt, however, was a two shoulder type and it crushed quite nicely into the chassis side hole and locked the subframe down well.

The installation in the front wasn’t too bad. The biggest tip I can give is when installing the front and the center collars, if you find that the subframe does not drop enough even once the bolts/nuts are loose, jack up one of the wheels and it will drop and allow plenty of room to fit the collars in there. No prying involved.

I currentlt have the rear jacked up and will be installing those collars later today.

Matt
