What is this? Can I remove it from my manifold?

I am single turbo and have a PFC. Not sure what the black cylindrical piece bolted to the manifold on the right is. Does anyone know what it is? What does it do?

Can I remove it? I have a block off plate for it that came in a block off plate kit.

Thanks!

Actually, the part on the right side of the picture, bolts to the manifold with a 2-bolt flange, is the ISC (idle speed control). I prefer to keep it, it does a great job of setting the idle and removing it doesn't really gain you anything.

The connector on the middle of the manifold farther left is the intake air temp sensor, that's a gotta-have for the ECU, it's a primary sensor.

Thanks. I will leave it. I knew about the IAT sensor, as I just replaced it tonight with a fast reacting unit I bought off a member in the classifieds here.

The two block off plates in the middle of the underside of the manifold (center of the attached image) are for the accelerated warm up, right? I had capped the inlet tube anyway, so I figure it was cool to just pull them off and put the block off plates on there. Removing those pieces is OK, right (where the block off plates are shown)?

I search of the FSM would have helped you learn many things beside what it is.

Yep, the AWS blockoff plates are a good thing. If you want to get more hardcore, get a JDM upper intake manifold, it doesn't have the AWS ports at all.

Definitely keep it. Even if you find the sweet spot after adjusting the three screws that control idle; it wont last due to engine temp and weather variations. You'll constantly be re-adjusting things.
