So i tried to screach the forums and could'nt find anything so i decided to make a thread to ask what is needed.

I current have a 88 convertible rx7 N/A. I bought a cat back exhaust system for my car not realizing it was design for the turbo version of my same car. Now i ask will this exhaust system work for my car if i don't use the turbo downpipe and i use my after market headers?

Any advice would be help full and btw i'll be doing the work my self probably no torchs or anything. and the under body of my car is pretty clean hardly any rust.

As the stock replacement for the Y pipe is the same for both vehicles, it will fit with no problems. The turbo mufflers are of a lower restriction because of the turbo, but they will fit, maybe a little louder. If it's the RB Turbo system it will neeed to have some welding done to match up to the main cat.

 

Thanks for the fast reply i was under the car today and i started to match everything up and ya i think it will if perfectly from headers back it is all being replaced with new so it seems to be a great buy.

Oh ya going to try and remove the whole system from the headers back and just replace it now with all the new. Wish me luck this is my 1st time doing exhaust at home with no torchs.

 

It will be louder than the NA version, but will fit assuming you have their 2 1/2 inch version, If the Y pipe is the same as the stock, you're good. If the Y pipe is shorter, you're not.

 

I used the RB 2.5" TII catback on my NA for years. It's a direct swap for any stock catback, and it's not that loud with cats or a presilencer of some sort. It'll still be quieter than any of the canister mufflers out there.

 

When I got my '90 GXL it had this aftermarket replacement exhaust system on it;
