1990 FC will not start, (clicking noise)

1990 FC will not start, (clicking noise)

Hi everyone I just recently bought a 1990 rx7 non-turbo! I am new to rotary and I join the forum to seek answers and help. I will state what I have done from beginning til now. The car has died out on my friend while on the high way. It sat aside for about 7 months to a year, he now passed it to me. I started the car and turns out the battery was dead and and very loose battery terminals, I got a new battery and new terminals. 2nd time when i start it, the car would just slowly turn over and at the same time have this annoying rapid clicking noise on the lower right passenger side, but the odd thing is that if you push start it, IT WILL RUN. The car cannot start on its own, jumping the car will crank it, black smoke and also loud popping noise from the exhaust would come out also, what should I do? I have power for my lights,radio,windows etc... and I also tried the unflooded process. Still no crank! PLease help the noob

There's a Black/Red wire running to the starter solenoid. Clean the terminal and see if this makes a difference. If it doesn't then use a screwdriver to bridge the terminal on the starter from the battery to the clip where the solenoid wire is located and see if it causes the starter to turn over freely and do this with the car not in gear. And you might want to clean both the positive and negative terminals of the starter if you do as stated above and if so then disconnect the negative battery terminal before cleaning and when done cleaning, the negative battery terminal is placed back on the battery last after the positive terminal.

clean off your grounds

if there is black smoke coming from the exhaust your oil seals could be going out. warm up the engine then have a friend rev the motor. if black smoke comes out then the seals are going out.

The smoke sounds like fuel to me if it starts like crap

Only way to tell is to get it started and see what it does.

Check basic stuff: air, spark, fuel, timing , thats all it needs to fire up..
