What is this?? 87 TII FC

I was changing out a my right spindle on my car with a better used one (I had some gauling on the spindle shaft with an associated loud howling noise on high load left turns on the track). There is an extra spacer welded to the bottom of the spindle that fits over the ball joint on the a-arm. I bough this car 12 years ago and the guy I bought it from had did a bunch of suspension work on the car (adjustable koni coil overs, adjustable sway bar, heim joint steering links on the spindle and what looks like a bump steer kit). Look at the pictures below. The top spindle is the one that came off the car. The bottom one is the new used one. I looked through mazdatrix's and racing beat's catalogs and didn't see anything that looked like that spacer.

Thanks for any help. Trying to have it ready for the track this weekend.

JC

That would adjust the roll center of the front of the car...helps correct suspension geometry with lowered cars.

Are you sure it's welded and not just pressed in? I don't see any welds...loosen the bolt and try to hammer it out.

The pictures don't show the weld. It is welded on two sides. I guess I could try grinding the weld off, and then re-weld it.

Yeah that definitely looks like something someone came up with to flatten out their LCA on a lowered car
