Pettit Racing Trak Pro Wheels??

I am in the market for a set of wheels and REFUSE to pay $3k for a set of wheels. I have paid over this amount in the past and looking back thinking WTF was I thinking, NEVER AGAIN. IMO it is just not worth it unless you are receiving sponsorship and being paid for winning a race.

That being said what are your opinions on these wheels, please no "get used expensive wheels" comments unless you can back up the reason for paying $3k for a set of wheels.

I spoke w/Cam and they have raced these wheels and they are track proven w/winning times.

Driving intentions are mostly spirited street driving, NC Mountains, and MAYBE a couple of track events.

I would want details on construction and weight before passing judgement.

Expensive wheels are often expensive for a reason—they are forged (strong) and light. You don't need to pay $3k for that necessarily, but it does cost. That also doesn't mean you can't "win" or turn good times with cheap wheels—Cam's a pro driver—but strength and weight are VALID considerations for wheels, end of story.

What's typically tough, depending on your taste, is to get forged, light wheels that also look great. That's also what costs.

Not a fan of the sizes or look of those wheels. Check these out, inexpensive, fairly light and strong.

Expensive wheels are expensive because we are dumb enough to pay for them thinking we are going to get on a racetrack every weekend. You have to think about where they are made. If they are coming from Japan, someone has to pay shipping and that cost is built into the wheel. Most of the 3-piece wheels are just not strong enough to handle everyday driving and one pothole will bend them (ask me how I know).

Thanks, for the link but I am looking for a wheel that has a staggered look. I want it to have just enough lip to be able to tell that they are staggered. I mean what is the use of having such a wide rear if you are not going to show it off.

All of Pettit's "Trak Pro" line products are pretty new so I doubt you'll find much feedback yet from others. So the question is do you take Cam at his word? If so, I don't see what the hesitation is if you like the look of the wheels.

I say get what you want, it's your car.

For me, the use of a wider rear tire is performance...an ability to accelerate sooner and faster out of a corner.

Not that my opinion has much validity on this forum yet, but these are the wheels I'm buying myself for Christmas. If they're good enough for Pettit, they're good enough for me.

Anyone get these wheels?? Haven't seen them on their web site since it got refreshed. Wondering how you like them and if they still have them (I'll have to give them a call).

i run 255/275's on enkei rpf1's 17x9/9.5 +45/38 offsets and i get the "staggered" look without getting pounded in the *** for tire prices or availability. tire prices and availability are what should be foremost in your mind and a good, FUNCTIONAL wheel that will last. oh and i paid a hair over 1k for my rpf1's shipped from rishie.

Well that's what Rota wheels are for. I totally agree because I have spent that money on the expensive wheels only to have them get scratched during mounting the tire, tech drops the wheel on the face, installing the clamp on wheel weights on the lip, etc. So never again for me too.

If you do decide to go used I've found that wheels are surprisingly cheap in Japan although the tires are RIDICULOUS. So I get my wheels from Japan and tires from America. Yahoo auctions Japan is just packed to the gills with wheels. I found a set of the OE 17x8.0 and 17x8.5 for $150 and in America I see these selling for $1,000.

Here's the store I bought mine from, look they are 9,990 yen which is about $115:

If you want to find more just go here: http://www.upgarage.com/upgarage/sto..._01_01&msidx=1

Select Mazda from the second drop down box, then RX7 in the next box. Then hit the hour glass button and all the wheels will show up. There's a set of gram lights for around $500, even a set with tires if you want it. The only difficult part is shipping but that's up to you to figure out, ocean freight being the best choice there.

Or go here: http://list1.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp...-category.html
Click the size you want from the left, then type RX7 in the search box. Good luck.
