I just wanted tell you guys that I replaced the rear Pirelli P-Zero Assimetrico's on my Jag with Michelin Pilot Sports. Holey HELL what a difference.

Before, when I was pulling away from a stop, the traction control was always on and chattering. Now I can just wail on the throttle, I get a small squeek from the tires, the car plants and it just flies with no traction control action. The car also seems far more responsive and I know it sounds funny, but the car feels lighter. The tires sidewalls are a lot stiffer than the Pirelli's and the car rides a bit more taut and jiggly, just like a race car at low speeds.

If anybody is looking for a great street/track tire, I can really recommend the Pilot Sports. Crap what a difference. On a Turbo RX7, I would think that they would be just about a perfect blend of grip and lifespan. If they can harness the 400 hp/ 400 ft/lbs and 3500 lbs of my cat, they should be perfect as a street, lapping tire.

Oh yeah, the price is substantially lower as well. I got the Pilot Sports from Tirerack for $189 a tire and the replacement Pirelli's were going for $374 a tire. Just to be clear, I am getting nothing from Michelin for the above review, I am just blown away by the difference in performance between the tires. They also have to last longer than the 15,000 kms lifespan I was getting from the Pirelli's.

pirelli tires are ****. You probably could have gone to 1970's bias-plies and seen an improvement!

 

+1. Got P-Zero Neros (the summer version, there's also an all season) on the 7. They were a step up from the Goodyear RSAs I had before, but that's not saying much. I think the PZeros have replaced RSAs as the safely under-gripping OEM performance tire of choice (safe, as in keeping unskilled drivers from going too fast before they slip and slide).

 

Remember that the OEM Pirelli's on my car are their top of the line tires. If I could buy them in Canada I would be looking at almost $600 a piece.

The Pirelli's flat spot horribly, wear like a demon (but they leave really large black lines behind you) and are completly intolerable to any kind of alignment issue. When my front end went out of alignment, keep in mind the toeout grew by less than a 1/16", the fronts wore out in one weekend trip of less than 4oo kms.

They are supposedly designed by Pirelli to work with the active ride on the car. I don't know, but the Pilot Sports are way ahead of the Pirellis, so much so that I have already placed an order for the fronts as soon as Tirerack gets more in. I will be pitching 2 tires I spent over $700 for less than 2 years ago, but the change is just awesome and the straight line grip was just like a hot r-compound.

i have bridgestone potenzas .. i like them... they have awesome grip

 

Pirellis are not good.... Pilot sports are awesome but wear quickly

 

I have Pirelli PZero Nero on my FD too, they are alright...... i think~

 

every time I drive a car and think "man these tires are terrible" they usually turn out to be perilli's.

previous owner of my truck put some General Grabber's on the rear though and I have to say in terms of traction they are some of the worst tires I've ever experienced. I will be buying new tires for it as soon as I can, they're just terrible. I got stuck in my gravel driveway today trying to back up a trailer up a say 3-4* incline. never had a problem with my old truck but this one always gets stuck. I'm going to get a set of michelin's for it I think.
