13B Questions

I'm new to rotarys and I messing with my first for my show car Mazda mx6. I have a 13B non turbo from a 86 -88 (I think). I think they call it a 6 port.

First : I'm changing it to Carb. Removing all electronics. I've got intake and side draft carbs. I'm assuming I have to block off injectors, change electronic distributor to regular dist., etc.. Where do I get a distributor to fit? Where do I get injector block off plates? What else do I need to do to change it over?

Second : I'm not that interested in performance but would like to do what I can to increase performance at a reasonable cost. I have to rebuild engine anyway so what is the best thing to increase performance at reasonable cost? I would perfer things I can do myself. I can port it myself, if I can get some direction on what to do?

Third : The master rebuild kit is like $1k. Do I need to get this to rebuild or what do I need? That seems like a lot for a rebuild kit. I can buy a running RX7 for that.

Any other advice?
Thanks
Ryan

First: I'm not sure, maybe drill and tap the injector holes and then thread a short bolt with a copper washer? You will want to block off the oil injectors as well and run premix.

Second: Porting will give you a good increase in power. You can get a template from many websites. racingbeat.com is one of them. You will have to find a way to actuate the 5/6 port to do it correctly, otherwise you can force them open or even remove them. If you wire them constantly open you will lose significant low end power, if you wire them closed you will lose a tremendous amount of top end power.

Third: Yeah, rebuilding rotaries is expensive, no if and or buts around that. But I promise you its worth it.

racing beat and mazdatrix sells plugs to block the injector holes in the center housing. a cost that's really not necessary as u can just leave the injectors there. any distributor from a pre 86 engine will work. FI runs a higher fuel pressure than what those carbs will so u'll need a regulator to bring the pressure down. what u need to do a rebuild depends on how worn the internal metal seals r. but that $1k sounds about right since it's a "master" kit i'm assuming it has such seals in it? it's the internal metal seal that really cost. gasket sets r fairly cheap. and a good aftermarket exhaust system will be the next performance mod.

I found the injector block-offs on mazda trix... and I found an old distributor on ebay. thanks..
-why would I block off oil injectors? and run pre-mix? What you mean by that? (I have to run oil with gas?)
-how do the 5/6 ports work, normally?
-I don't have a fuel pump or reg. yet so what size pump and reg should I get?
-What is the air pump for? Do I keep it? where would it pipe to?
-Can I just get rid of the following components? (I'm not worried about emissions..) EGR valve, air control valve, other actuator etc on intake?
-What about the oil metering valve? What does it do since it feeds injectors to intake and injectors are intake/housing point? Where does the linkage go and what controls it?
