CA v8 swap for fd legal or not?

its an ongoing debate between my friend and i and i was wondering if someone could clearify? i always understood that putting a different motor in your car was legal as long as it meets emissions. and some are saying its not cause its not factory. anybody? california btw.

It's legal, but a long process. And everything from the donor motor emissions wise has to be on the chassis you're installing it into. Oh and the motor has to be newer than the chassis its being put into.

A mature and informative answer to your question:

Yes it can be. You have to have all the stock emissions equipment of the motor you are swapping in i.e. air pump, catalytic converters, egr if it has it. The way I understand it you can have the fuel system from either car. The engine must be of newer model year then the car you are putting it into. Meaning if the car is a 93 you must have an engine that is made in 1993-2009. Once your swap is completed you have to take it to the referee. He is the only one that will determine if the swap is legal or not. If he says yes, you get a sticker of sorts to put under your hood in case you get pulled over. Once you do the swap, ask the admins to change your name to v8newb.

I don't know much about Cali emmision laws, ( taken i'm from the east coast), But I know the transplant must be the same year, or newer, and it must coem from a car. I.E. if you wish to swap a 350 small block into a rx7, it must come from a car, not a truck. Also, if the engine swap is in an OBD2 car, the obd2 scanner must work properly. Otherwise, instant fail. That is how it is in Delaware anyway.
