As title, you see sometimes, not often, seemingly mostly in Japan, the Panspeed Time Attack record breaking FD for example, the engine being referred to as being side ported.

Does that mean a particular type? Ie Street, Bridge, PP, etc?

Reason I ask is my car came over with a ERC "side port" engine, and ive no clue what that means

ERC are these btw, but their site makes no sense to me...

Any ideas?

It could also mean bridgeport or half-bridgeport. Basically "side port" just means "not peripheral port". Likely they mean streetport.

correct but incorrect, while you are technically correct, only a street port is called side port over here in Japan. mazdas first attempts at production rotatries all centered around a very small peri port. but they dropped that in favor of "side ports" so yes while any non peri port is technically a "side port" when dealing with the japanese, to them a side port is a street port and that pretty much covers from mild street ports to massive ones that the seals almost fall out of. bridge ports are bridge ports, but the japanese refer to them as small, or big ie: bridge ports and the larger "J" or semi peri ports.

I suspected that might be the case. Thanks for the clarification.
