What size?

hey guys, I want to some new wheels and tires for my Rex (86 Sport, some mods) and was wondering if you guys thought that the 17" SSR Comps with 215/45's would be overkill. Its either that or 15" with the stock size. I want to keep my car light, so I'm liking the 15" not to mention that they are cheaper too. But the 17"s do look better. Do you think it would really make my car handle all that much better?

I'm getting 215-45ZR17's mounted on 17x7's this comming week, I think they will look great, not overkill.

Originally was goin' for 18" wheels, but
couldn't find anything I liked that wasn't ugly or very heavy...

17's will hurt your acceleration a little and they will be heavier. 16 is a good compromise in my opinion.

I DON'T want it to hit or rub. The roads here are NOT the greatest in some places. I drive 100+ miles every day. Let me know...

No, I have no rubbing problems what so ever, even tight corners, bumps, potholes, etc. My suspension is stock, no lowering is needed. I say go for it. Get the shop to fit it and test it for you first, that's what I did.

They are being fitted right now
I saw some of the other posts in here. I have been out of the Forum for a while. I had to recreate my user name and everything
Oh well... Thanks for the info

BTW the 225's are going on my stock 87 T2 Wheels which I am refinishing. I will use them for everyday driving and I am going to get a nicer 17" set later on.

No, not exactly the same, but I just found out that I have a 30 day "test drive" on them and so if they rub, or I don't like them, I can return them...

RX Agent; heres a thought, get an Eibach Pro-kit, and itll make ur wheels look Bigger, and itll be Phat yo!

if u guys dont wanna swing 18s, or even 17s, just do what u want, THEN lower ur car. soak up that fender-to-tire gap, and youll LOVE it. and youll love to Drive it too, the harder u push the car in the turns, the harder it handles. doesnt compromise ur stock ride considerably.

gorockrx,

Let us know how the 225/50/16's work with your TII suspension. I've got an 89 TII with stock suspension, need rubber, and want to go with the same size you're mounting.

Well,
I am picking up the car later today. I took it for a test drive on rough roads and I just barely made it lightly (Very Lightly) touch the fender on the passenger side in a full U-Turn to the left. I have a bent fender on that side though, so it may have just been cause of that. The 225's are on my stock T2 rims which are 16"x7". The wider tires with no power steering are actually EASIER to turn since they are in much better cond than the old junk that was on there, and there is a definite change in handling compared to stock! I will be putting on a set of new springs/struts soon. So far I am happy with the results, but I will post again after I drive the 100 mile round trip to work tommorow. I will know more after that. I am going to also install a set of new springs and struts (lower about 1")
Worse case is I will have to roll the fenders just a little when I lower it. We will see what happens....

Cool

The tires are working great! I am very happy with them. I wish I had a 7.5" or 8" rim for them, but they fit just fine and handle good with my totally stock suspension. Hope that helps....

Thanks for the info it's good to know.

Question

What was the offset of the wheel that you installed? When I phoned the Tirerack they said that anything larger then a 215 would rub! So I went with 215 instead of 225's,
bummer!
