Arrow Just Pulled My Stock '85 GSL-SE Out Of Storage, And...

After about six months of covered storage: Replaced the battery, made sure it wasn't seized, replaced the gas, got the intake to suck up a little power-steering fluid, the car started fine, feed and bleed on clutch. No idle seeking, no cloud of white smoke. The car acts just like it did in its glory days.. until I put it into gear and try to drive down the road. Then, there's no power at all. I can get down the road, but once I put it into second , I push on the accelerator hear the engine gurgling on gas, and there just isn't any power. None.

I've had two RX-7s over the past six years and when my S5 would act like this, I would just find a long stretch of road and just blow it out, because i knew it was flooded. But, the first gen just won't cooperate. I'm guessing it's an onset of failed apexes from the sitting, but I live in a pretty rural area and don't have a lot of resources to get the compression check to confirm this. So, basically I'm looking for a warm and fuzzy here on the thread. I'd really appreciate some responses! Thanks.

Well, since it's an SE, I'll have to defer to the EFI guru's out there...

well, if you're thinking the worst, apex seal failure, do a compression check. a poor man's one. just to hear your wooshes.

I replaced the fuel filter for good measure since I had an extra one on hand. No luck.

I picked up a compression gauge and here's what I got:

Compression: 97 - 112
Bump: 80's - 100's

Everything seemed fine, but still the same issue. I went ahead and removed the intake manifold to take a look/ replace with a newer one I bought a while ago, ended up removing the fuel rail to get to a broken vacuum line when I took out the injectors for a quick inspection. First, there was a moth in the electrical connection, and then I noticed a deteriorating o-ring on my rear rotor injector. Oh, and the car is running incredibly lean, like hot air coming out of the exhaust.

Pull the spark plugs. What does each leading plug look like?

"Hot air out of the exhaust" is not a valid test for a lean condition.

Sounds like you may simply have some issues like vacuum leaks, bad gaskets, etc. Are you getting spark on the leading plugs?
