Hello everyone! i'm a newbie
cars i had before are all piston engine from integra type r to acura nsx, they are all bulletproof. Friends told me stay away from rotary but i dont care, because i love RX7 too much!!!
Anywayz there's rx7 FD selling as is on dearlship lot and got everything but not starting, but still tempting becuase the price deal.

The car does run before, but i think it's been sitting in the lot for too long and nobody takes good care of it. Is it Possible everything inside still fine ? I'm not sure where to start and see whether internal still fine, or i just need rebuild the engine.

is it better to rebuild the engine, or just swap a 2000+ spec jdm engine?

 

Maybe it just needs the starter replaced?

If you're really interested in the car and willing to work on it, hardball the dealer -- treat it like a blown motor car. You either end up with a cheap car ready for a swap, a cheap running car, or if they don't want to "give it away" then they'll have to get it running themselves.

 

I'd say it's better to rebuild, and I agree with another7driver. When you're dealing with the...uh..dealer, remember to treat the car like it's broken down, because it is. They'll either have to give you a great deal or be forced to get it running before selling it.


Find a good rotary mechanic.

 

I'll bet it's just flooded. But it could just as easily have blown coolant seals or low compression, so don't assume that it's as simple as a new starter or battery.

Swapping in a later engine is not a common choice because it is hard to guarantee the replacement engine is any good. Plus the JDM motors have different wiring, which makes it far from being an easy drop-in.

Definitely plan for major repairs, I'd offer just a few thousand, maybe 5-6k if the body and interior are excellent and chassis mileage is under 100k. Then you'll have 5-8k "savings" that will fund any motor work or maintenance to get it running well. Don't expect to come out ahead on final / total cost without either luck or a very skilled and free rotary mechanic.
