How to remove "Add coolant" buzzer?

Is there any fuse I can bypass to disable the frustrating buzzer?

Or can I simply diable the stock water temperature gauge?

I have a aftermarket water temperature gauge...

P.S.: I tried looking at the fuses box in the car but it's all in japanese... (I have a JDM)

The sensor is about $30.00 if you need to replace it, it could save you an engine

^Agreed. Why do you want to disable it? The low coolant level sensor is black and mounted right on the front of the t-stat housing. It's one of the easiest sensor's to access and one of the least expensive.
If you absolutely MUST disable it for some reason, you could just unplug it. It's a single wire connector just behind and beside the filler neck.

Not to state the obvious... but have you checked your coolant level??? I always find that replacing coolant makes the buzzer stop....

If your coolant level is fine but the buzzer is still driving you nuts, it's either the wire to the sensor or the black spade connector off the engine wiring harness. It's located near the front lift hook and the connector for the OMP, and plugs into the body wiring harness.

Find the wire that leads over to the driver side harness - ground it. Your alarm buzzer will never sound off again now. In the meantime collect up about 3 Large for a rebuild later

Glad I found this thread...I am going to disable mine as well until I get a replacement sensor. After changing my oil last night the buzzer is constantly on. Think I may have spilled oil on something and shorted out the sensor? I'm not sure. I switched oil weights too, from 10W-30 (I believe, not sure, the shop I had it at put the oil in) to 20W-50, might that have something to do with it? Oh I should add that I know I don't need to add coolant. I check fluid levels every day, they're fine, and water temp readings on the PFC are normal.

If you were adding oil where it could spill on the coolant level sensor you need to check the Owners Manual!

that's hilarious Fix it right. Almost seems more work grounding the sensor that just replacing it.

His reason is sound.

You would have gotten a much better response if you asked HOW TO FIX the buzzer instead of disabling it.

Lots of things could activate the buzzer.... low coolant level, air pocket in the coolant, bad wiring, bad sensor etc.....

While i do agree that his post was a little bit misguided, his basis for such is sound, as there have been MANY people that did what you are trying to do, and then.... they have to spend $3k+ for a reman/new motor/rebuild, and had to sell it because it blew in a matter of months of purchase.

Well as I said in my post, I just want to disable it until I replace the sensor, which will only be a few days from now, or whenever I get the part. And I'll do the wiring at the same time. Obviously it's not a good idea to disable the light permanently; I do have a temp gauge on the PFC but the factory gauge / buzzer actually works very well unless it's broken, and I realize it could be my last defense before doing permanent damage to the engine. I take care of my car...I know I'm not in any danger of there actually being low coolant, I check it every time I get in the car unless it's hot, I know how important it is to keep these engines cool and I always carry coolant and oil with me. So, it's not because of low coolant level, and I didn't mention this earlier as I didn't know it could cause the light to come on, but it's not because of air in the coolant either...I just burped it a few days ago. That leaves either a faulty sensor or faulty wiring. It ONLY started doing this after I changed the oil, and, come to find out that the spade connector mentioned earlier is close to the oil filler neck...so it would have been easy to spill oil on it. I looked at it and it was dry, and the wiring looks sound, but I'm still going to redo it probably, might as well put some better quality wiring in while I'm replacing the sensor.

did i say you don't deserve to own an FD? please don't misquote me. my statement stands...........i believe the FD that is owned by you is not in good hands.

that being said, i disagree with your statement regarding this forum. it is very informative if used correctly. there is a wealth of information on this forum and there are some very knowledgeable individuals that post here. if you think almost everyone here is a "D$*K" then maybe you should not use the forum? just a suggestion ?

as i do not want to crap on this thread, even thought it is worthless, i will leave it at that.

*sigh* sorry, I've had a bad day, and can sometimes misinterpret things. And I don't even know why I'm on this site, it's addicting I don't want to stir up anymore drama so I'm not going to say anything else on that matter. Thanks for the help guys. Why do you think it's not in good hands though, papsmagu? Like I said, I do my best to take care of my car. I didn't come into this thread intending NOT to fix something that's broken, which is what I think people may have understood (or misunderstood, rather). I may not be the most knowledgeable mechanic but I do everything I can to keep my car happy. And little things like this are just learning experiences. I'm not harming my car.

removing the buzzer harms your car. And if you trust the pfc temps you might aswell read the dashboard as they both read from the same sensor,

Low level coolant will not even show on the pfc. On the other hand, if air is stuck in your cooling system and the sensor does not get water on it, it might not show a reading but it will be jumping from 90C to 120C and the temps wont be anywhere near those. If you are lucky to see this in time, good for you.. most likely you wont so, there goes the motor

I agree that removing the warning buzzer or disabling a functioning coolant level sensor is probably a bad idea, but the ECU does not use the same coolant temp sensor as the coolant temp gauge on the dash. The gauge on the dash uses a one-wire sensor on the rear iron, and the ECU uses a two-wire sensor on the water pump housing.

it actually uses the same exact temp sensor behind the housing, what you have in mind is probably the level sensor which is one wire

First I'd like to state that I'll be helping RMRanger with his FD problems, not just with coolant but with any other problems he may have. Most of you may not know me but Rich does, being that he's helped me alot over the years also. I'd say he's just about the ONLY helpful person in this thread. Case in point...

It's not like he doesn't want to fix the problem, he's just not sure how and the buzzer is driving him crazy. Just because he didn't ask "how do I fix this problem?" doesn't mean he wasn't actually asking. I believe he was asking for suggestions of what might have caused it. I'm not sure if he has a manual, I don't remember what he told me, but some people don't know they NEED a manual. I didn't have a manual until over a year into owning mine, I just came to the forum to search for answers and asked knowledgeable people. So what I'm getting at is how is a person supposed to have a resolution in mind when they are coming here to ask for advice?? That's kinda putting the cart before the horse isn't it? Doesn't really make sense. And how much more intelligent was his post supposed to be? Is there a grading scale somewhere that he needs to consult before posting?

The only reason I haven't been up to Denver to help him yet is because I just got back from deployment and found that my own FD isn't finished with paint and body work even though it was supposed to be. I'll be sure to go up and help him as soon as I can so he doesn't anger any of you professional FD mechanics anymore.
