When did you first fall in love with the RX-7?
For me, it was when I was 12, riding with my dad to work in his '88 FC 'vert.. (Which is now my project car) and Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" was playing over the radio.. For some reason, things just clicked that day...
What about you guys? Any experiences that stick out in your mind that just made you fall in love with it?

Probably about three years ago a car pulled up at my work. It looked like some exotic sports car. I went over and it was like 94 FD. I haven't really seen many around if any at all. I've always seen them magazines and knew i'll have one someday. I finally got one but it's sorta my daily driver/ project car.
When I first took one for a test pilot (in the first need for speed on PC) back in '95
Had the NA1 NSX, JZA80 supra and FD RX7 in it. I think I liked the supra more back then but now that I'm older and wiser, definitely a FD for me.
I'm located in Australia and being RHD over here, looking to import a Series 8 Type RS in a couple of years.

it was a little over a year ago, i was about 17 at the time, and i had just come back to michigan with my family after an earnest but unsuccesful attempt to put down roots in pennsylvania (the owner of the house we were going to buy in penn. flaked out the day before we were going to buy it, and our house in michigan wouldn't sell in the poor market) so we'd settled back into michigan, and through the whole ordeal, i had kind of lost my plans for my life. so i was a little depressed and kind of directionless.
then one day i was riding down a road near my house with my folks and i saw this little red sports car with a sign in the back window that said "$500" parked on the side of the road. we took a look at it, and i eventually convinced my parents to let my park it in the yard and i bought it with my own money and there i was with my first car. it ran like crap and it had a front fender, hood and bumper from another car, but it was mine. i guess a project car was exactly what i needed at the time. i didn't know anything about cars, but i cleaned it up inside and out as best as i could and i set out learning everything i could about rx-7's and cars in general.
now i am alot more familiar with cars, and i now know the 7 has a blown engine, so i'm trying to work out the logistics of an engine rebuild. but in hindsight i still don't think i would take it back given the chance. although my parents probably would. lol.

Mine was when I was 13 and I was learning to drive in my uncle's 88 TII. Fell in love instantly. All this love I have for rotaries didn't cost me anything..... but it did cost my uncle a new clutch

haha when I was about 4 or 5 riding in my aunt's vert, which was like the batmobile for me, all black, 5spd and had all the cool extras. 12 years later found it still in her garage with only 60K miles and 4 blown tires and a dead battery and now it's my project car
about 7 years ago when my friend bought a 10th anniversary turbo II in white and i had a S13 and a MkIII Supra at the time and the fc handled much better then my 240 and mk3 with aftermarktet suspension,
my friend use to own one, maybe 10 years ago. it had overheating problem, but back then we had no idea whats wrong with it. there were no internet car forums.
one day i finally agreed to come by his house and look at this phenomenal car he was talking about.
right after i saw it, i knew this car is special.
then he turned the engine on, floored it and started spinning donuts in front of his house. i was completely blown away. i never seen car do that before.
i was hooked.

For me it was when needed a car I just got my license and had no car I didn't want just any car i.e Grand Am/Prix Civics and the rot. Then one day I saw my 86 gxl sitting in a drive way and wanted it the moment I saw it because it was just so different and fast
Probably when I went to my first drift event and saw an FD Rx7. I had never seen an import that looked similar so it caught my attention right away. I've always liked FD's the best since then, but there is something about an FC that hints at the potential underneath.
I fell in love with them in 1992. I had just graduated from Marine Corps Basic Training and I was doing 10 days of recruitier assistance. The recruiter that I was assisting had a Turbo FC and he let me drive it to an ATM to grab some money for him.
He was a really cool guy and told me that I had about an hour or so to get back to the office so I drove it all over the city.
I finally bought my own in June of 1996 (Silver 1994 FD) and I still own it today.

For me it was back in 1992. I had just graduated from Marine Corps Basic Training and I was home for 10 days of recruiters assistance.
The recruiter that I was assigned to had a FC Turbo and he asked me to go on an errand for him. He tossed me the keys and told me that I had an hour to get back to the office.
Needless to say, I enjoyed every bit of that hour driving all over the city. When I got back he asked me with a smile if I had fun? My response was a resounding "Hell yes!"
In 1996 I finally bought my own in the form of a Silver 1994 FD (5 speed, Touring Package).

I was 14 and riding shotgun with my dad in his Z06, I was just getting into cars and my dad was showing off on the high way (I was having a blast, ive been an adrenaline junkie since i was 6) and my dad got spanked by an FD. I was reading the back of the car as it pulled away from us and then went home and googled Mazda RX-7. (I've been learning about them ever since)
Then in high school there was a black FD in the parking lot and I found out who it was and started talking to him. Found out he was selling it because he was going to college. He was gracious enough to let me and my dad test drive it (I was 16 at the time). It had a few bolt-ons and sure enough I scarred the hell out of my dad (downshifted to 2nd and punched it at 30 or 40mph). A year later after my junior year of high school I bought one off this forum.
I'm in college now and still in love with my FD.

in the same boat as you, unfortunately for NZ we only got this year to import them in, next year the new emission laws rule them out... so hope the dealers start flooding them in now
I love this question. I feel in love when my older bro bought one by accident. In fact the whole family loved it cause the same car was sold to four family members before I got it with a blown trans of course but all in all they r bad *** rides.
im 28 years old and ,puerto rican,i allways heard of the rotary engine and all the things you can do to it,my uncle had a 1st gen w/a turbo n some other add ons, the car was quick and the sound of that engine was crazy,so one day he took me on his lap and i steered around my neighborhood wile he shifted,i was about 7 or 8.....and eversince iv been a fc fan....today he looks @ my car and talks of his,on how he should have never sold it.......and now that i think about it he's the only person i ever let drive my car....all n all i LOVE rotary!!!
