Hey guys. Need an opinion on this motor.

I recently purchased this JDM t2 engine from Japan2LA and usually I hear good reviews about this guy. What i'm wondering is if this motor he sold me is blown. It has just been smoking like a mother since the first day I got it running (Second day I had it)

It just blows out white smoke out the ***. For non stop. I understand if it blows smoke the first 10 mins maybe...just because it hasn't started in a while, but this is constant. Don't take my word for it, check it out on the vid i took of it.

the smoke that comes out the front is due to a leaky downpipe. ( I need to get taht fixed)

But even then it should not smoke up that bad, right?

It has a crispy aroma to it and i'm wondering if it's the coolant seals that are shot.

I've noticed quite a lot of things about it as well. For one, the turbo is leaky and does not spool. When I drive I have no boost.

I want to figure this out because I have till the 23rd of this month for warranty that Japan2la gave me. And I rather exchange it for another motor.

Sounds like coolant seals are blown completely. If it smells sweet then thats an obvious sign. I've heard a lot of these J-spec motors being sold with blown coolant seals.

That's what im thinking, it smells a bit on the crispy smell rather than sweet. More of a bittersweet I suppose

ALWAYS rebuild a Jspec....they will tell you they are low mileage and **** then you get it and the motor is garbage. They are descent cores and that is it. I hope from now on you will test the engine before installation

Sent you a pm

I think the turbo may be bad...

Check the things I listed in the PM and get back to me..

Blown coolant seal are easy to diagnose and I dont think that is your issue unless you have overheated the engine...

wouldnt surprise me if it is your turbo. If you are getting no boost then that is a very strong/clear sign that your turbo is bad. It starts up and seems to rev fine which means a turbo should be spinning. Take the turbo off and inspect the front and rear or before than take off the turbo inlet duct and see if the compressor spins by hand as well as how much play it has. Either way with that kind of smoke the turbo oil seals are most likely gone.
The first time you started it up did it smoke or the same as it does now or did it get worse?

Almost forgot.

Check you oil, then at night start it up (to avoid everyone seeing your cloud making machine) and let it run for 15-20 minutes. Do this to check if it is overheating from bad coolant seals, although I dont think this is the issue as the engine seems to start up pretty easily.
