anybody have the mazdaspeed replica hood from atihun with a greddy SMIC? The hood is awesome, but it will not clear my greddy SMIC. Any ideas?

 

I have the mazdaspeed and the m2 med ic. it fits fine. The pipes used to rub a little but if you adjust them you can make them not rub. What part exactly is hitting the hood, the pipes or the ic itself?

 

I honestly don't think that ic that you have is the best one out there. If I were you I think I'd probably keep the hood and ditch the ic. Sell it on here or the partstrader and get either the m2 one or the apexi or greddy fm. The greddy 2 row is pretty cheap right now. I'm not trying to say what you have is crap or anything but I think thats probably the way I'd go. That is unless there is a way you can possably adjust the Ic a little bit to make it fit correctly.

I got mine from Attila. My wife and I just bolted it on and if it weren't for the intercooler, it would have fit perfect without any adjustment. There is a thread in the group buy section. Even though the thread is closed, you can get attila's email there.

By how much does it not clear? 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch, etc?

You know the bar that goes across the center, where the IC sits, you may be able to either lower it or have one fab'd as such:

Also try to see if you can angle it a little more towards the front of the car.

 

the part that does not fit is the, uh shall we say crown at the top. The top of the greddy is not flat, it comes to a point, and the hood sits on top of this. There is no clearance at all. I am getting a front mount instead. Anybody want to buy a greddy SMIC???

 

I can buy it for $0... that is all I can afford right now . And since I don't even have one of my own hoods, it will fit great with the stock one.

How bout a layaway program

Well at least that is a good excuse to get the FMIC; good way to convince the wife!

Is this the hood that has reverse vents on the top? if it is i was just wondering what happens if it rains and your car is outside? Doesn't watter get all over the engine?

 

I've had my car out in the rain several times, as long as you keep driving fast no water goes into the hood...heheh, j/k.

No seriously, there is a small lip on the lower portion of the vents which would keep light rain on a stationary hood out of the engine bay.

On my car, any water that drips into the engine bay doesn't drop on anything that it would hurt, ie not directly on the apexi intake filters, etc. Any water that falls into your engine compartment after you car is warmed up, probably evaporates in a matter of seconds anyways so I don't see it as a major concern. ie it doesn't keep me from driving in the rain.

It might just be me but does the hood look like it does not extend as far back towards the winshield as the stock one did, maybe it's the whiteness of it currently but it seems like I see more of the wipers and the area at the base of the wipers than I did with the stock hood. Another thing... you guys that bought the hood, are you going to install the rubber seal that is in the rear of the stock hood. I remember there being some debate on it's usefullness. Also the rubber flap that sit behind the headlights. anyone going to remove this from the stock hood and transplant it on the replica?

The water gets in the engine bay when you wash or when it rains. not really bothering me too badly but once I put in my polished parts I won't want that. Going to look into making some rubberized foam plugs for the wet and wild times.

 

As for water, Attila includes some metal mesh that can be fit over the openings, and then a magnetic mat can be cut for blockoff plates. As far as extending towards the back, it is exactly the same fit as the stock hood, except for the vents which are too low to clear my IC, but in terms of the outline of the hood-DEAD ON. Such a shame. Oh well, I went with the apex GT IC for use with the rx6 that is on the way!

 

Who is this Attila and how much does the hood cost? I would like to get one. I'm runing stock Ic and pretty much everything stock, so will there be a problem with fitment?
