Whats your single turbo intake?

I just bought a XS Engineering T04E turbo kit from rx7store.net and it doesnt come with a filter. Right now I have a custom intake with two K&N filters for my twins but I was wondering what other people are running for their single turbos. Please post your intake and pics.

Hmmm, expensive turbo and chickenwire? Not a good idea. Get a K&N. They make all sorts of sizes and will have something that will fit. You can also use rubber or silicone coupler tubing, or even pvc piping and elbows from home depot to extend it away from the turbo towards the front of the car where it will get cooler air.

The XS T04E SHOULD come with a filter, the T04S doesn't.

I have the XS T04E also and modified the M2 intake to work with the single. So I have a K&N inside the M2 cold air intake.

How did you mod the intake to work with the single? Seal up the extra holes? Any pics? I was gonna sell my intake.

I guess that would be right, if you turbo was right
behind the radiator, but some of us do some extra mods to prevent that.. Also, if its that bad, I guess at least 50-60% of the race driver and race teams are wrong....

I notice that everyone runs there intakes like that right infront of the turbo, I was curious are you better off making somehting extend forward so it gets cooler air, or does it matter? I guess thats the job of the FMIC anyways...

Anyone have good success with a custom hood intake? Not just a huge hole in the hood (like someone I know in Htown), but a custom scoop or actual cutout (viper style) that works. I know I've seen this in threads b4, but....while we are on the subject.

Haning something closer to the front should help bring more cold air to the turbo. I've seen people do it through the bumper to the brake duct, etc., but it will usually require an odd sized filter.

OK OK OK check my car in the gallery here in the RX7Club... canman6969 Its the one with all the blue, you can see the intake we made. The egg strainer is right infront of the turbo, between the pipe, and turbo.

Custom fab stuff I can handle, but is it actually worth anything, like will it provided smoother operation? more HP? If the gains arent great and kinda equal to pissing in the river and wanting to see the water go up, I think Ill just mount it right out front of the turbo...Any proof other than speculation Thanx guys

I know a guy who has a setup like that, and his car does high 10's in the 1/4 mile with a full body and interior. That's pretty good in my book.

Silver-
I removed that aluminum plate that has the couplings in it and made a new one with only one hole in it. I bought a piece of aluminum and cut it to be the same shape as the original. I cut a hole in it and used a 45 degree 3" piece of silicon hose to extend the metal coupling enough so the filter would be inside the box. Viola- the M2 single turbo cool-air intake box.

Mike-
Having a cold air intake (or doing something to get cooler air into the turbo) doesn't make a huge difference since the intercooler brings the air temp back down to near ambient temperature- especially if you have a front mount. It does help though- that's less heat that the intercooler has to remove, and the air into the engine is a little cooler.

Your turbo would also be more efficient (hot inlet = hotter outlet ) , and have to work less to provide the same pressure ratio , resulting in more boost sooner and lower in the RPM ranges of the engine and turbo. (more responsive turbo and car).

I went back to a piece of screen on my turbo. I didn't like it with a filter.

I will probably never put a filter on again. Its been off for a year now. I just check the oil like religion now, instead of once a couple months or something like before.

I usually change my oil about every 1500 miles. THat seems to work for me.
