I wanted to know what everyone thought about the CUSCO Roll Cage for the FD's? I also wanted to know if they made the car stiffer or if it was just unnecessary wieght? Thanks

 

Any rollbar/cage will make the car stiffer. IMO, the Cusco is not a good choice. The bars seem a bit smaller than what I've seen used in other cars. Here's the Cusco roll bar:

DON'T BUY CUSCO! Their "cages" are crap IMHO. All the ones I've ever seen pictured have S bends in the front downtubes, that's a TERRIBLE DESIGN. In a serious roll over these will just collapse in on you, probably making the car more dangerous than before. They need to be straight and either pass through the dash, go at a steeper angle, or attach further back. They have little to no triangulation at all, and what they do have is removable, making it less rigid, and they've got no door bars, no dash bar and no harness bar. They also count their "point" differently than anyone else. Also, if you go up past their 4 point bar or 6 point "cage" then they're more expensive than other options such as Kirk and Autopower. To them any extra bar added is another point, whereas everywhere else a point is where the cage attaches to the car.

There's no way they'd ever be legal for any kind of racing. If you want a better bolt in cage check out Kirk and Autopower.

I firmly believe that the Cusco cages would make the car more dangerous. The roll bars are probably fine, but won't provide as much protection or stiffness as the other options and will have less utility with no harness bar.

Also, be sure to pad the bar or cage, especially if you drive it on the street with no helmet, as hitting your head on a metal tube in an accidnet would be bad.

 

I wouldn't do it at all on a car that gets driven on the street regularly. The FD is plenty stiff as it is.
