FEDERAL-MOGUL Throw out Bearings=Crap!
I am replacing my Clutch trans etc,on my S4.I took the Transmission Off and the throw-out Bearing just Fell out,in Pieces!..Yes,I installed it Correctly!.to top it off,I paid HIGH dollar for this part, through a Local Parts outlet, and the Bearing has maybe 3500-4000 km on it!..I can't believe this,so I am gonna dig out my receipt and Tell the Guy that he is Selling Junk!.I'm glad I caught it before Damage was caused.Has anyone else had a throw out bearing come apart like this?
You should know better dave. OEM is simply the best. If mazda could have made it better, they would have.
The Throw Out bearing in my car is aftermarket and it sqeaks in neutral and with the clutch in.

Couldn't agree more - not necessarily for quality but for peace of mind....the price for OE is not that bad either. Back in the day I had great success with Beck & Arnley clutch kits, but I can't recall the bearing manufacturer who made their bearings or even Fed-Mog's for that matter. Mazda would have likely chosen NTN, NSK or Koyo as their supplier.

Federal-Mogul are what Cummins, and Caterpillar use in a lot of their engines. I realize 7s don't have them, but large engines have bushings on the inside of the rocker arm that seal with the shaft that goes through them. The bushing usually has an oil groove machined in them for lubrication. Cool things. Sometimes they don't machine very well, but I'm sure that if CAT and Cummins trust them, Federal Mogul is generally alright.

The bearing may have been at fault, but keep in mind it's very easy to damage the needle bearing while inserting the transmission shaft. I've seen more then a few torn up on installation if the transmission is forced in without proper alignment.
he's talking about the TOB, not the pilot bearing.
I've seen several destroyed pilot bearings as well, it's /really/ easy to do if you don't have an alignment tool, or if the engine and transmission aren't exactly parallel during installation.

NO..I am talking about the CLUTCH RELEASE Bearing(throw out) which Fell off the clutch fork into Five Pieces and Onto the ground(because it had a Big Chunk out of the Side of it!).It Was NEW.with NO heavy Duty Driving on it.The Pilot bearing, also NEW survived,Just Fine..I am not New to wrenching cars(Born Twenty Years before the car was Made!)..Aaron,NO force was applied when I Installed the Trans.I am a Stickler for things Fitting without pressure. If it needs pressure, then it is Not Right, especially on a Clutch install!..anyhow,I Changed the Trans over.Everything is different NOW.(N/A engine with TII driveline components.)Thanks for the Replies guys.STYX!~
