if you remove the black plastic on the side, will it leave holes.

if you remove the black plastic on the side, will it leave holes.
heres the deal. I didn't put my gas cap on correctly and it spilled gas all over the back quarter panel and onto one of those black plastic strips. it is now starting to fall off. If I remove all the plastic. will it leave holes in the door? thanks
