Finally gonna buy my first 7
Finally gonna buy my first 7
After years and years of drooling over this car, I think i'm finally going to buy my first one. As much as I'd LOVE a FD, I think realistically I'll be getting a FC instead, unless I magically get a nice FD for cheap.
I've set my budget at $5-6g. Yeah I know, not a lot. Who knows tho. I am not looking at purchasing right now, but rather in a few months, probably during winter time. My hope is that I can grab a good deal then, when owners are looking at getting rid of their summer cars.
This car will pretty much be my summer/fun car. I run a CNC Machine shop with my father, so in the slow time, I'm hoping to make my own tricked out parts.
If I go FC, I'm hoping to get a 'black' one and convertible. Turbo is a must as I've never owned a turbo vehicle in the past.
Given that I'm not rushing into this, I'm going to be doing a ton of research over the next couple months. If anyone has any input for a first time rotary/turbo owner, that would be great.
For those that don't know me (or some may recognize the username), I run/own Mazda6club.com and I also administrator bcprotege.net. I currently own a '99 Mazda Protege. I most likely will be giving that car to my mom, as I am getting married next year, and my girlfriend has a V6 MX-3 that will be the daily driver/winter/all around car.

Looks like you will have tons of fun,
The convertible came stock with a non turbo motor, so getting a turbo one means going RHD or getting one that someone already did a swap on.

Hey man, great to see you here - I own a Mazda 6 and am SixPlusSeven on your board!
As mentioned above, the vert never came turbo on our shores, so you are going to have to do some work to get one! Beware of people slapping turbos on NA engines or j-specs plugged into the verts as many of these type of conversions are done pretty half-heartedly. That's not to say that nice ones don't exist, just that ones done on the cheap will give you huge headaches!
Take your time and buy one that is as clean and unmolested as possible. Buying a nice vert with a blown engine and doing the engine swap yourself is also a good option. This board is a wealth of knowledge so have a good look around!
A quick thing to consider...
The nicest examples of these cars tend not to be driven in the winter, so trying to find one for sale then will be difficult. In my experience the best deals are to be had in Oct-Nov in Canada. People want to offload their cars before putting them away for the winter. You will have more choice in the spring-summer, but the prices will be higher.
Happy hunting!

Hi guys,
Thanks all for the info. Already I'm learning something, as I didn't realize that the verts didn't come with a Turbo.
Nick86: being in Vancouver how is the scene here? Do you see a lot of cars around here for sale? (local forums?).

Well, I've been out here for about two years now. The scene is good, but not as good as it was back east in Ottawa. As far as local sites go, go to bcrotary.com. It's a good place for local cars for sale, meets and events!

Good choice on the FC. Honestly, I've had more fun quantity in my FC than the FD.
The FC took ALOT of abuse, it was hardly maintained and it always ran perfectly. The FD is really touchy, everything has to be always perfect (so much more worry). Again, smart choice!
