Question Reviving OEM RX7 Rims

I have tried car soap and the toughest bristles I can find and I still can’t rid my rims of its many stains. One rim seems to clean up better than the other but the rest just come out dull. If I look closely I see that a light polish or buff would be able to bring that life back to the rims. I think we can all agree that stock rx7 rims are extremely light and durable. Proof of this is the many Supras utilizing them on the drag strip. Anyways the point is I want them cleaned. They don’t look horrible but since my car will be coming back soon with the repaint I want my rims to match the freshness of the body. I remember a body shop saying they could re-glaze my rims or something of the nature, not sure what that means though. Let me know your guys opinion on this...

PS I would like some Work, Advan, or Volks on there eventually but the stock will have to do for now…

I had the same problem as you with my OEm T2 rims. Until i found a product that does a preety good job of clean the grime. EagleOne All Wheel &Tire Cleaner, it did wonders with just a little scrubing. Although you have to rinse them off really well or they will stain.

Seriously doubt a spray is going to rid my rims of its dullness or stains. I guess I will give it a shot, where can I find this stuff, local auto part store?

I use that Eagle product, with a wedge shaped wheels brush, on my FD's wheels. It gets them "clean" but not CLEAN. I know exactly what you're going through RX7SIGN, it's almost like something someone settled into pores and its just not coming out. Like leaving lasagna in tupperware for too long.

Perfect explanation Crymson, this is why I believe the rim needs a slight buff. I have dealt with Jewelry for a very long time and I have polished pieces that have had similar wear. As you said the grime seems to settle within the almost “pore” like spots on the rims. I am trying to find a head for a drill bit that could buff effectively; I have a spare rim to try it on. If I am effective with it, this could be a big deal.

I used p21s wheel cleaner did the job great. You should try and seal your rims with poorboys wheel sealant.

dont know if there is a paint code for the silver colour on the FD wheels, but you could look into having them redone so they are new again like your car.

Okay lol, which direction should I go to for this fix???
Not quite sure

1. What does sealing the rims mean? And where I can get that stuff from

2. Seems simple but I don’t know if this will really get the job done

3. What companies or shops redo rims??

1)get a big tub to fit one rim in

do this with the rim already in tub
2) fill it 1/4 with water and the rest with as much purple power as it takes to cover the rim

depending on how bad the rims are
3)let soak for a few minutes to a couple hours or even overnight

4) remove rim and completely rinse off with water (high pressure power washer works really well here)

5)wash with soap and warm water and then let dry
