Does anyone know what I can do to check to see why I don't have spark at the plugs, I have a series one car with the series four 13B Turbo electrics and loom.

 

i know nothing about either car but if i had nothing at the spark plugs i would be looking for 12 volts at the coils

Thanks for your reply, I ran power directly from the battery to power up the coils and still no spark at the plugs when I cranked the motor, I borrowed a pair of coils and hooked them up but the same no spark and no power to the coils by the key, powered them up directly from the battery and still nothing.

 

so your coils aren't getting power either. so now you need to find where the coils get their power from.

the aus rotary forum is more active than this 1 for australian owners suggest you also try there

also google stuff like "car ignition" have a look at this site to and compared it with your car

Hi Eric thanks for the info your sending, I looked into how things work and its a great sight, I'll check the distibutor and then the ECU, seems like the ECU controls the firing of the spark.

 

the problem might also be an ignition module, usually a little black box that is bolted somwhere in the engine bay
they usually give no trouble but when they do they just go dead and you get no spark

can't think of an easy way to test one without comparing it with a known good 1

unfortunately wreckers and friends don't like lending out good ones for fault finding as they sometimes get smoked by the problem car

not often, but enough that it is a real risk

I will look for the ignition module I have a borrowed ECU so I will try that first.thanks Eric e
