Painting wiper arms
Has anyone ever painted the wiper arms on an FD? Mine is a 93 and they've gotten pretty faded by now. Should I sand them first? Also, what is a good paint match for the original color?

Did mine last year. The arm was all faded with the alum bare color showing. I just used a black spray paint and did about 3 coats. Any black flat or semi gloss spray paint will do. No sanding required, unless your old paint is flaky. It looks like new when it's done.
Remember to remove the wiper blade from the arm when paint it. Also when you are putting the arm back on, tighten the arm well. Mine came loose and the arm made a little chip on the hood. Luckily, it's on the edge that is hard to notice.

Thanks. Yeah, mine is down to the bare metal as well. I also got the rear one to deal with, but I think I've figured out how to remove that.

Auto parts store black spray-on touch up paint works the best.
When I have painted stuff like that in the past, I always used a fine steel wool and a little acetone to clean them before painting.

You can actually get automotive grade spray paint at most parts stores. It will lsat longer, less likley to fade, and will have a higher gloss for longer. Sanding helps, but is not totally necessary! I did mine by just doing 3 coats of body color paint I picked up at the local Mazda dealer, but if you want to do just black, get some from a parts store.

I heard that painting them bright colors add hp!
Just the opposite of brightly painted calipers lowering braking distances...
(bad analogy, I think red calipers look tite!)

I just got mine back form the powder coaters today. not sure how much they cost as they were in with a bunch of other parts. i got them done flat black but they have a little texture to them. they look sweet as hell. and not rain gas sun or anyhitng is going to get through the powder coating. i had some parts done and tried to bead blast them back down, the bead woulod barely cut through it. great stuff
