Help car sputters when i let off gas.

I recently had problems with a leaking injector. i replaced both secondaries and w/ new intake manifold gasket. I had a problem with a broken vacuum hose and it would idle at 3,500 rpms. I replaced the vacuum line that was busted and the surrounding lines too. the rpms were still siting at 1500-2k so my friend did something with the cruise control wire that dropped the rpms to a reasonable 1200.

the car now spudders and backfires when i let of gas in order to stop at a light. i usually put the clutch in and coast but then i realized my rotors are warped but thats a different subject.

i've search for this and can't find anything. i'm always afraid to ask questions in fear of someone lashing out at me. maybe i'm asking the wrong questions.

motor has 154,000 miles on it. it's a 87 turboII.

The Air Control Valve is supposed to control backfiring and shuddering when you let off the gas (I think)... I'd start there.

Hmm, make that the Anti Afterburn Valve and the Dashpot... there's an article about adjusting the dashpot somewhere... I think it's 1300cc.com

Dashpot is to stop a huge POP when you rev and let off quickly. The AAV is to stop the mini pops you get under deceleration.

Adjust / check your TPS and get back to us. Btw, what wire did your buddy mess with? or do you mean cruise control cable... I'd also check to make sure your throttle cable isn't adjusted too tight - Start your car and with your foot under the gas pedal, pull up and see if the rpm's drop.
