alright guys, im gonna be drag racing for the first time. . . EVER. ive read a lot about what can be done and what cant be done on a stock suspension setup, but its all back and forth, and not really definitive. i know i shouldnt tear up my car by launching it hard and all the whatnot, but i need to know what tires i can go with for my stock rear end application. . . on a 5speed. ive been looking into drag radials, but want to make sure i get the best bang for the buck. im not even sure if i SHOULD get drag radials since i know ill more than likely suck at it. the thing is. . . were getting beech bend raceway in bowling green, ky for an entire day. so, i can take my car up the strip as much as i want. maybe ill get better, maybe i wont. i just want to know which tires i should get, and what i should worry about when launching. any help with that???

Mickey Thompson drag radials...not the bias ply. You can drive the radials on the street and they hook like mad on the strip.

kaotic, im going with a bunch of members to a local forum. the forum has rented the track for that day, and only allows members. you can join the forum, and come to the event. . . and i think you should, cause i wanna see what that af61r does in person.

they have a 3day/3post new user program. if you can get past that, then the forum isnt a bad place to visit. they dont take well to trolls, and usually burn the **** out of them. hahaha, so, just as long as you dont get on there talking about how your car is faster than everyone elses in the world cause you have some sort of 8' wing on the back. . . youll be fine. basically, they have a "no-ricer" policy. it gets funny at times.

Preloading helps from having some breakage on the strip.

Honda drag racers(not only them) have been known to use OEM axles on 600hp setups. You just preload the drivetrain, and then after that do a hard launch.
mainly for the guys using slicks when its just drop the clutch and GO!

Take your time at the light, don't rush yourself, reaction times are only good for bracket racing. Don't waste your time burning out in the waterbox if you don't have drag radials or slicks.

I would do a quick little launch to take the dirt off the tires and whatnot.

When you line up, you should be able to see dark tire tracks going down the strip, try to stay on that path as it will give you the most traction.
