Which course would you take?

The Two Day Driving School, or the Ultra High Performance if you had the chance, im thinking about taking one of these classes, and would you like to get some feedback, Ive driven for 6 years, got basic skills can handle cars like no other, but no wear near the professional or really experienced level. Would the two day be worth since they mostly talk about emergency lane changing and mostly safety issues, which ofcourse wont hurt but when you got the choice should i go striaght to the 2 day Ultra High performance, I'm planning on gettin something 340rhwp, when i come back from my trip.

 

Start with the basics, you'll start in there cars to learn then use your car to practice what you learned and it will be a blast in your car, Some of there instructors have 3rd gens. (two that I know of for sure) one of the 7's is 95 black R-2

 

You'll find out within 10 minutes of the first session that you can't handle cars like no other. We're all just hacks but you don't know it until you get some instruction

 

I was going to say that also. It just means you have more to un-learn.

 

Yep, I agree. It takes only the first lap to realize you don't know squat about high performance driving. That first session is a very humbling experience.

As far as the courses, what exactly are you wanting to learn/experience? If you post up what your goals are, then maybe we can help find you a class.

 

What do you mean by "driven"? Have you raced on a track or autocross course? Going fast on public roads says very little about your race driving skills. Gran Turismo will teach you more about race technique than 'canyon runs.'



I say take both classes, starting with the Beginner's class. Seat time, seat time, seat time!

I did the basic three-day racing school (in the Formula cars) in '92 at Road Atlanta. It's an experience i'll never forget, and I highly recomment it. There's nothing like an open-wheel formula car.

 

I am a graduate of 3 Skip Barber Schools.

I took the 2 day Advanced Driving School more than 10 years ago. This is basically for people who want to learn how to drive "better". At the time, this course was taught using BMW 3 series. One gets to learn vehicle dynamics, understeer, oversteer, threshold braking, skid control, etc.
Pretty basic stuff. Not recommended if you think "you know how to drive".

I took the 3 day Racing school about 2 years ago. This course is geared for people interested in learning how to race. The course is taught in Formula Dodge which is a open wheel car with a Neon engine bolted to it. It is a fast and responsive car. It follows the Skip Barber book, Going Faster! There is a lot of seat time and even if you don't want to become a racer, it is a highly enjoyable, adrenaline-charged experience. Having completed this course, one can get more seat time in the race car during Lapping Days, Car Control Clinic or Computer Lapping. I would recommend this course.

I took the 2 day Advanced Racing School this year. This course completes the training to become a racer. One can get an SCCA license after this course is completed. One practices all the techniques that were taught during the 3 day Racing School such as threshold braking, trail braking, cornering, etc and then some, such as driving the wet racing line, passing, race starts, etc. Once this course is satisfactorily completed and one spends another day of Lapping or Car Control Clinic, he can then start racing in the Skip Barber Race Series.

All courses are taught by highly competent professionals.

My recommendation would be to read the book "Going Faster!" by Skip Barber available at Amazon, and then take the 3 day Racing School.
