fd pfc into a fc

I got myself a apfc for some work i did for a friend, can this be made to work in my '91 T2?
If so, what will be needed to do so?

Short answer, no. AP Engineering in Japan sells PFC's that have been re-done to work on an FC. They come with a custom wiring harness, a boost sensor, and an intake air temp sensor, and possibly some different programming and tuning for the FC's sensors.

You'd be way better off selling the PFC to an FD owner and using the money to get something that will work on the FC.

From what I gather ,it's a reworked FD one.Basically its a small harness that adapts the FD connector to the stock FC wiring harness...I might be wrong but AP couldn't have done much to it as they didn't even change the airtemp characteristics as you need the FD one to produce the correct reading. The big question is the ignition side, don't know if that is hardware coded or can be software configured, anybody know? I did come across a japanese website that looked like it was showing how to use the FD power FC in a S5 TII but I couldn't get the translater to work and now can't find the url for that site...So the bottom line is you would need an adaptor harness, and at the very least an FD airtemp sensor, map sensor and figure out how to work the ignition, along with something like the datalogit to be able to tune and configure the base maps of the power FC,I'm pretty sure the elec. MOP is the same to control.Does anybody know if the ignition can be software configered with the datalogit or if it is a firmware coding...thanks

Have been reading diagrams all day and have come to the same conclution as you Griffin, got myself the ecu plug from an FD today so im gonna splice my factory harness into that. On the ignition there is only onw thing im unsure of, and thats the trailing plugs. But if i run into problems i'll just use FD parts. =)

Wow - that's interesting! Looks like they show the pins from the FC to the FD. Not sure on the ignition pic - that could get weird.

Anyhow, it's definitely possible to do, but it's a case of whether or not you want to be the guinea pig and try it out. It may work great, or it may be a total nightmare of trying to make things go.

Might want to look at the Microtech - lots of FC guys are using it, and it's VERY easy to install and have running great. You could EASILY sell the PFC for enough to fund a Microtech.

Yep,that was the site I was talking about-good find .If you could figure it out that would be great, since a FC3S power FC From AP eng. is twice that of a standard FD3S powerFC.Then add the Tuning software (datalogit, etc.) and it gets pretty expensive.cheers

Only update as of now is that the datalogit is ordered, but we're gonna put it into a FD... My own car is going a bit wilder than i thought, "its gone to a "how much can i throw away battle" and have decided to order a Autronic SM4.
