my parents are going to be in japan in may, and i wanted them to send me back some rims if possible. would it be cost effective if i had them get the rims for me and if so where should i have them start looking? also, i was thinking about the spirit R bbs rims, how difficult would they be to get? could i just have my parents go to a mazda dealer and order them or is there something else involved?

also, what other rims should i consider?

 

I've always been a fan of the ADVAN RG, but I'm not sure how they'd look on an rx-7

 

I'm sure they're not that difficult to get, just probably a lead time, oh, and the little matter that a set will likely cost over $4k.

A set of 3 BBS wheels for FD went for like $550 last week in UK. Too bad one wheel was missing.

I dont think it will be that bad in price since they will be in Japan. When my friend was teaching English in Japan he sent back performance parts for MUCH less than they cost here. He just went to a tuner shop and picked them up (they had all kinds of crazy stuff in stock!). Shipping wasnt that bad via boat but it was like $150 a rim for FedEX. Boat was like 90 days FedEX was like 5 days.

 

Your best bet is to hit up one of those tire shops that sell used Volks, Works, Racing Harts, etc. Used rims go for a dime a dozen, and most are in top notch condition, if not almost mint. Last time a friend was in Japan, he told me he saw a set of 17x9 used Volk TE37, 4 with tires, for about $1000.00 or so at a shop.

 

air express from japan....expensive. when we ship junk food over from japan, it usually costs around 100 for like a...24x24 10-20 lb box. rims....i would say into the 150-200 range per rim. shipping by boat....ALOT cheaper. however....not the safest. they are rough on stuff and lose/steal a lot. we have never recieved several of our junk food boxes over these years. [sniff sniff..... ]. we have also never recieved shipments from our friends that ship stuff over to us by boat. so go which whatever. air-quick,safe,but expensive. boat-usually into 1-3 months,not the safest, and cheap.
