FD pods to hold 6.5" speakers

I am making a set for another fd owner that I owe a favor to. They will be made of fiberglass and be a direct bolt in to the stock location, however they will hold 6.5" speakers and they will be enclosed for better sound. I just figured Id see if there was any interest in these? I can also do custom sub enclosures based on individual need/wants. I can make the following, these prices are estimates
(1) pair of 6.5" pods $150
(1) 10" spare FG tire enclosure $200 (sit flat)
(1) 12" spare FG tire enclosure $200 (sit flat)
(2) 12" spare FG tire enclosure $225 (raised slightly)
(2) 10" spare FG tire enclsoure $220 (raised slightly)
(3) 10" spare FG tire enclosure $300 (raised up high)
id also make wood enclosures for anyone but shipping would be expensive due to weight.
If there is any interest pm me here, post here, or email me at teamafx@hotmail.com. This isnt a vendor ad btw, just gauging interest so I know whether to make a mold.

How much better would these pods be compared to the stock mounting locations in the Base/R1/R2 cars that can already hold a 6.5" speaker? 150 dollars worth better???

I dont know what car you are using, but I have a r1 and I cant fit the 6.5 inch speakers without hacking them in and the depth just doesnt really work so there is air leaking all over the place. Im talking about a piece with essentially oem fitment that can hold the 6.5 inch speakers and seal them as tight as a sub enclosure. And the price is up to you if you think its better, I know I have more then just a few people interested already, do a seach and see how many people ask how to put in 6.5 speakers in the stock locations. And the 6.5" speakers I have in mine are a solid mid bass driver with a hefty magnet and depth not a cheap set of jensen or pioneer that have no depth or real sound quality difference over stock.

I created my own panels to hold 5.25" speakers about a year ago so I could have an airtight mounting surface. I'm sure you would get a lot of interest if the product were good quality, bolted right up, and had a good mounting depth. I might even be interested in switching to get some more midbass.

Let's see some pics! Here is what I did.

I should have clarified, "non-BOSE" cars. 6.5" shallow fit (> 2.5" mounting depth) speakers should fit no problem (I have 6.5" Boston Acoustics' SL65s), and I'm curious to know, how would you be able to clear the window if you're going to be adding depth with your pod?

One obvious question is what does it do to the mounting height? Do any clearance issues come about between the front of the driver and the back of the door panel?

Any reason why you didn't go with 5x7 or 6x8?

I'm the one TeamaFX is making the pods for. He does great work. I'm going to use them with a set of BA pro 6.5 speakers. I'll be sure to post feedback once I receive them.

yeah its for the front, and once I finish the pods ill test, by my measurements they should have room. If I were making these for the rear Id be done already!

How big (diameter and depth) could the speakers be if you made pods for the rear? I would be interested in an enclosure for the rear locations. Bigger is better. A pod/enclosure that would hold the JL 6w0s would be really neat if you could make it deep enough. I haven't done enough measuring to know what would fit back there. I would think something like this would be a great alternative for those who a looking for some decent bass without taking up the entire hatch area with a sub box.

well i put five and a quarter because the shop customized a wooden closure and covered everything up with cloth to match my tan interior to fit, let me tell you this, it's sounds way better than the bose set up, i have JL audio speakers in the door panels, not sure of size, and they sound superb. my mid isn't working but i'm still happy. i used to have two ten inch
subs in the back, but i'm happy now and have enough bass for my needs. i don't have a scanner nor a digicam so whoever's local in socal just pm me and i'll let you know the independent shop that did it for me, so far it's the only place i've heard of that does this to
our cars.

CCarlisi, how do you like the pods? If they come out good I may also be interested in getting a set.
