Questions about performance mods... (ports, intakes, exhausts, cooling)
I have some questions about certain performance mods. Mainly about fuel economy...
What are the different kinds of ports (street port, big port, bridge port?), and how do they work to effect performance? Is this simply an increase of the engine's intake efficiency, or does it effect fuel flow too? Does it effect fuel economy?
Does using a performance air intake hurt fuel economy? Does it thin out the air-fuel ratio (making it leaner)?
Does using a sport exhaust effect fuel economy, or is the power gained simply from being more efficient (but louder)? I heard that using one can increase boost, so that's why I wondered.
Will using a radiator plate (to better put air through the radiator) actually help engine cooling?

"Increasing engine breathing capability, should give better fuel economy, but usually you want to dump more gas so then fuel economy would obviously go down. Street port/Big port = same thing one is just bigger. These ports allow the intake port to stay open longer than the stock port. Bridge port allows the port to open early and close later than the stock port. Bridge ports and Peripheal ports are the Big Dog ports!"

"It does Not hurt fuel economy, and does Not lean out the mix. It allows more air to flow which in turn will allow more gas to flow with that air. You end up getting more power and more MPG! Win, win situation."

"Yes . . . That is what makes the rotary engine faster! You make it fuel effiecient as possible, then dump as much gas as possible with out going too rich, becuase rich running engines have less power ! ! !
Leaner is faster, but leaner burns hotter, so if too lean you could cause major engine damage . . .
Dont forget about ignition upgrades, more spark allows more gas to be burned which increases economy and power. Direct Fire Ignition . . ."
