Ok can some one with a 85 - 85 12a motor answer a few quick questions? #1 is there a vacuum line that comes off the back of the # 2 anti-afterburn valve and if so where does it lead to? Hayne's man page 263 top right corner. and # 2 more vague, there is a valve looking thing towards the rear of the exhaust manifold and just above that looks like it might/should have a line comeing off it as well? what is it and if it is soposed to have a vaccum line where does it go?

(( Really trying hard to find what that sucking sound coming from my engine compartment is coming from. ))

does any one have good pictures of the right side of a stock 84 12a motor with all its accesories connected to there proper locations?

Seriously, Sucking sound... Does it sound like a goose being sucked into a shop vac during a hurricane? Do you still have your shutter valve? Is your Idle rough? If so, goto your air cleaner box and pop the top. Theres a hose towards the back. I'm sure everyones seen the pic. If you havent, Check it:



Stick your finger over that hole. It should NOT be sucking air at idle. If it is, thats your problem. Pull the hose off and plug it up.

That valve stops small backfiring on deceleration by stopping air and fuel to the rear rotor. They go bad every 80k miles. You don't need it. You will hear small popping every now and again as you decelerate the engine though. Most of us already have it plugged up. It's no big deal.

all the lines to my air box lead to some place or part and seem fine. and yes my car does idle a bit rough. on my car the #2 anti-afterburn valve has only 2 rubber hoses leading to and away from it. I think that there should be 3 but I can't find any pictures in the book to prove my theory. The two that are there are smaller dia. the port that comes straight off the back towards the fire wall has no hose and is aprox 1/4 in across. when the engine is running it has a vacuum pulse that gets stronger if you put your finger over the hole. the other valve that is way below this one seems to have constant suction. I plugged both holes and my car seems to run a lot smoother but I would really like to know what these two things do. or at least are soposed to do. I also don't know if they are getting suction form the air pump or the engine intake I may try a little WD40 to see if they lead into the engine but I am a little leary of that not knowing what they are or where they go. little too far away from the carb for my comfort.
