Getting gas cartridge out of shock housing
Getting gas cartridge out of shock housing
Hi.
I'm putting KYB cartidges in my front shocks. I've taken a shock off the car and removed the spring, but I can't work out how to get the old cartridge out.
There is a metal ring with a small dip at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock. I can't get this out. Can anyone offer any advice? Haynes says you can cut a steel pipe, but that sounds like a lot of work. Is there an easier way? I can't make it budge with pliers.
Can any of you explain the process you went through to replace your shocks?
Thanks,
ScruffyChimp

ya, what yaya said, but i used a 2 foot pipe wrench. it comes out pretty easy. be prepared to get oil everywhere, esp. when you yank all the old innards out (and i do mean yank...hard) i spent 15 mins working the struts in and out trying to pump the old fluid out and still painted the garage and myself with hydraulic fluid.
