I am looking into doing it but I know of no places to learn, take clases, etc. There is a need in my area for a reputable turbo builder. It seems easy enough and I am going to work on my friend's and attempt to upgrade it to a hybrid T04 compressor/stock turbine side. Do you have all the equipment? Mostly a turbo balancer? Your rebuilds wont be worth a damn if you dont balance them. Especially on a high performance applications when its seeing tons of rpm

You also going to need a good lathe to do hydrid's

To do custom turbo's like hybrids and such and to do it correctly your would need a at least $15K worth of equipment and that would be used stuff thats just good enough to get you by that'll cost a fortune when it starts to break. I dont know model numbers or name brands or anything like that, I just know Bryan at BNR refers to it as "the turbo balancer". You dont really have to get a VSR though, they are like a million dollars or some mess like that. You can actaully balance them without a VSR if you know what equip to get.

Bryans been real busy lately and hasnt been on the forum as much but I'll mention the thread to him and see if he wants to throw some input out there. Keep in mind it is his livelyhood though so he prob wont tell you much. He's a pretty open straight forward guy but he also has to put food on the table.

I can tell you this though, building hybrids is a LOT more work than you think it is. I've watch Bryan build pleanty of them. There is a lot of technique and "art" to it.

To be honest it would have nothing to do with him because I wouldn't do anything but local ones. And the locals don't frequent the RX7 world except a very limited few.

Good luck Ryde. It takes years of study and understanding to know what is envolved. You can have all the equipment in the world and still not have the knowledge it takes to build turbos. Sure a rebuild isn't tough, but knowing the physics behind each wheel is the way to make them right .

So where did you study? A school? A class? A book? Trial and error? There has to be a place to learn. I'll start with basic stock rebuilds and work my way up. How's that sound? Pointing in the right direction would help greatly. Thanks.

oops, my bad... you want to learn how to do it yourself. When I first read it I thought you wanted help getting one rebuilt.
