There are many years of Japan FD's .. you need to clarify first of all. Second we have discussed this very topic in a trouble shooting thread less than a month ago.

96+ uses different harness.

The series 6 (12/91 to something in 95 or 96) is the one you need for the US FD. It works the same as the US PFC

96+ uses a 16 bit ecu, I'm told. That's why the harness changed. So you can't even rewire the harness to make it work. Unless, of course, you change the entire harness, all the sensors that changed, etc.

It's the same one, thats why US cars have to clip the wires and Jspec don't.
Only difference is the Apexi logo will not face outwards because it was meant to be mounted on the right hand side of the car.

ALL PFCs are 16-bit. The harness for 96+ cars is different because MAZDA changed to a 16-bit ecu.

The physical wire interface is different, and rynberg mention that the internal is the same 16bit.

YES..........

There are 3 version of PFC from APEXI. It defined for S6(93-95), S7(96-98), and S8(99+). Each version parts number can find on Japanese APEXI web site.

I bought my PFC from Japan and no problem with it. Just make sure you buy the correct model. Some people said they don't have the basic map but I don't think it is a matter coz you need to tune it and match your setting.

So, there is no problem to buy PFC from Japan unless you care the warranty but I think you care more about the price which may cheaper than buying at US.

Real life example:
I have a socalled 'US' PFC fitted to my JSPEC car, works perfect, I DID NOT have to clip the wires.......learn anything yet?
