Question Turbo II or 2 rotor cosmo engine

I have been debating on which engine i want to swap into my 86 N/A RX-7...... i want the most power i can get, should i go with the Turbo II engine or the 2 rotor 13B-Re Cosmo??
Which one would most be worth all of the work for the swap??

Thanks

I think you'd definitely get more horses from the Cosmo 13B-RE motor..

Go with the 13B-RE. If you are going for all out power, that will be the better choice by FAR!!!! Best of luck to you bro.

As far as what turbo and IC you want. What are your goals for the car? Also, is it going in an FD or an FC? Do you want a drag car, AutoX, Road track, street, or dyno queen? I know that the guys around here will be more than happy to help you out if we know what you are looking for.

yes i would be swapping it into my 86 FC, i am thinking of going with the 13B-Re cosmo and gettin it race ported from Rotary Works, i want to as much potential out of it as possible, i want its best performance, also i want it to be street legal, i am going to be starting this project this summer!!

But are you looking for something that will be a drag car or more of a track racing car?? That is the point I'm getting at. Those factors can greatly change the turbo and IC choice for you.

Get with Sean at www.a-spectuning.com
He should be able to help you out. The only problem is I don't think that he has designed a manifold for the FC yet. If you want to be a track racer then you might wanna look at a V-mount IC. That would work out nicely. As far as a turbo, look for something that will spool up quickly and provide you with 350-400rwhp. That plus the handling characteristics of a 7 should help you out in the track department. Just remember that there's a lot more to it than just buying a turbo and IC. The EMS, fuel, suspension, clutch, drivetrain, brakes, cooling, and several other things will have to be done as well. I hope I'm not sounding like a total *******, I just want you to know what you getting into before you do it. I hope this helped you out some. Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

For track racing, using a V-mount will allow you to get just as much air to your radiator as you do your IC. So that way you are keeping your engine cool as well as your intake air. To get the full advantage of a V-mount IC you should be running a vented hood though. Go to www.rotaryextreme.com and look at his Monster V-mount IC setups. That should give you a good idea as to what they are and how they're set up. Also, with a V-mount you are going to have shorter and straighter runs of piping from the turbo to the throttle body. The shorter the piping and the fewer turns in that piping the better off you're going to be power wise. Is all this making sense? And I do promise that I'm not trying to insult your intelligence. But I have no idea how experienced with forced induction cars you are.

Im no pro when it comes to forced induction cars (in fact i have a 86 na as well) but it seems to be pretty much common sense that a v-mount wouldnt be used it its full potential. Maybe i could be wrong but thats how it seems to me. kbone gettin the TII or 13b-RE would mean converting you car to a turbo (i cant remember all the parts ... someone help) i know you need a turbo driveshaft since the n/a one is not as strong. possibly a TII diff and tranny. 4 pot brakes all around would be a added safety feature as well.

Sorry but, this is one reason why You shoudl not do a RE swap.

A Vmount is always better than a FMIC. It makes the Radiator and IC have dedicated air without restrictions in front of them.

Your Radiator will suffer more with a front mount.

Now.............

From your statements I would recommend you do some CRAZY research first.

a 13b-Re(Cosmo engine) is going to cost you a lot of money.

-You will need custom motor mounts.
-an after market EMS.
-custom IC design.
-new turbo(Duals are ECU controlled or something I think)
custom parts...etc.....

If you want to make a some what crazy S4 then I would recommend a 13bt swap instead.

Cheaper and easier.

Get a S4 13bt and street port it. OR get a S5 engine(little higher compression and lighter rotors) and swap a S4 front cover onto it(or go premix and no OMP)

Ditch the S4 turbo and get a S5 one if you want to go a little over stock or get a S5 turbo upgraded to a BNR compressor side. S4's have a very small and problematic wastegate(creeps).

You could go T04E/B/etc.......
Get some big injectors(maybe 550 primaries and 720-900ish secondaries)

You can then use the TII ecu and harness for semi wild engines or go aftermarket EMS.

It bolts right in and the parts are much easier to get.

My buddies around here are doing some good HP numbers.
One has a To4 and is around 280-310hp
Then my other buddy got a BNR stage 4 and is going to be around 400hp
Then Carx7 is doing 420 at the wheels with a FD engine and T04r

Mine is mild since it's a daily driver but we're all FC's

KBone, if you really want an 13b RE, I'm in Wichita and have one available.

You could save quite a bit on shipping since you're only a couple hours away.

Isn't the main advantage of a 13BRE, when compared to a T2, its larger ports? Is there enough material to open a T2's ports to equal or better the flow of the Cosmo's?
